5-Year-Old Credited With Saving His Mom’s Life After Doing The Seemingly Impossible

Updated August 31, 2017

Although Sal Cicalese is only five years old, he is a very smart boy. Not only did he know he was supposed to get help after his mom had an accident in the shower, he did it without hesitation. Now he is being called a hero – and he deserves it in every way. Not only did he save his mother’s life, he protected his 2-month-old sister and himself. It all happened when Sal’s mom put him and his baby sister to bed so she could take a shower. But when Sal heard a loud noise, he went to the bathroom to check on his mom. That’s when he saw her. She was out cold on the shower floor. Sal ran back to the bedroom, bundled up his baby sister and ran over to the neighbor’s house. What he did next saved his mother’s life.

When Jessica Penoyer, the Cicaleses’ neighbor opened her door, she smiled. She loved seeing Sal around the neighborhood. But then she noticed his baby sister wrapped up in his arms and she knew something was wrong.

Plus, it was late at night and she didn’t know why the child was on her doorstep. Thankfully she kept a clear head as she listened to the little boy’s plea.

“He’s standing there and holding something and I thought it was a doll,” Penoyer told reporters. “At first I thought he was saying his dog died.”

But Sal knew she was wrong and he wanted to be heard.

“He said no, my mom died in the shower. Can you take care of us?” said Penoyer.

She asked him to repeat himself. And when she figured it out, she called 9-1-1 straight away.

The emergency responders arrived at the Arizona home and found mom drowning in the shower.

“Honestly he saved my life. I was under the faucet.  If he wouldn’t have gotten help, I would I would have drowned,” said Sal’s mother Kaitlyn Cicalese. “If Sal hadn’t done what he did, I would have died.”

Only later did the reason for her collapse come out. Cicalese had had a seizure, which was the second since her pregnancy with Sal’s baby sister. She only remembered putting the children to bed and showering after having a stressful day.

“I turned on the shower, that’s all I remember,” said Cicalese. She woke up in the hospital.

The video report below has caused quite a stir online. Here were some of the popular responses from viewers like you:

“kids follow what they learn from mom and dad.”

“Brave little man you have!! Great job, baby!!”

Although he is a hero, watching his mother almost die was very traumatic for Sal.

“Every day is a challenge for us. He asks me a billion times if I’m going to be okay,” mom said. “He’ll tell me ‘are you going to have another seizure,’ no I’m ok. Are you going to die today? No, I’m not going to die today.”

What do you think about this boy’s quick thinking? Do you consider him a hero like everyone else does?
