73-Year-Old Widow’s Response To Getting Stood Up On Blind Date Has Made Him Famous Overnight

Updated July 12, 2017

One man’s unfortunate dating experience may lead to him meeting the woman of his dreams.

Jim Moroney is a single 73-year-old grandfather who doesn’t spend all that much time on the internet. But, when his neighbor urged him to get on the dating site, Match.com to search for a lady friend, Moroney obliged and soon he found himself connecting with a woman and setting up a date.

A true gentleman, Moroney got in his best sweater and purchased a dozen red roses and Sees Candies to bring to his blind date. He anxiously drove almost an hour out of his way to meet the woman, but he quickly learned that the dating scene isn’t as easy as some may think. After waiting at the meeting place for quite some time, Moroney gave up, accepting the fact that he had been stood up.

But, instead of driving back home to sulk, he drove to visit his 16-year-old granddaughter, Gabby Foresta. He ended up putting the flowers and chocolates to good use as he presented Foresta with them. After all, she held his heart.

Moroney went on to tell his granddaughter about his unfortunate dating experience.

“I was sad for him but I made sure to comfort him and tell him it was okay and I love him,” said Foresta. But, what she did next caused quite a ripple through social media. She took a photo of her beloved grandfather and posted it on Twitter…

Question of the week: If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?

It didn’t take long for the post to go viral, receiving 25k likes and 7k shares. People from all over had opinions to offer about Moroney and his dating effort.

Several women have come forward, admitting that they would love to date him…

“I would’ve been honored to have gone on a date with your grandfather…i don’t understand how people can be so rude.”

“You are a good looking man that is very respectful which is apparent. This has happened to me before so sorry for you you deserved better. This is a different generation and I like the old one better best luck in the future. i would date you!!”

“I would be interested in going out with him. I’m a widow of 3yrs. I’m just starting to get out on the dating scene again. I’m much younger than he is but my husband of 33yrs. was 13yrs older than me. I’m 59 today. I also have a special needs adult child who lives with me yet. She is mentally 3 and under but 32 in yrs. She bed ridding and wheelchair bound.”

And others shared their skepticism on the online dating world…

“AAAWWWW., I am leary about online meets and dates, At least something terrible didn’t happen to him. Please, beware of falsehoods online. Even if you do meet up with someone., do they have an agenda? How would you know?”

People really came out to offer their support and share their own stories.

As far as Moroney is concerned…he’s not letting this one incident get him down. He has hopes for finding Mrs. Right…

“You know what, this is the way the dating scene is,” said Moroney. “I hope I find someone truthful, loving and that has compassion. I’m looking for that special woman.”
