Because one New Jersey high school students has big dreams of becoming a funeral director after graduation, she decided to “kill” prom and show up inside a coffin. While most of her peers were renting limos for prom, 17-year-old Megan Flaherty and her date showed up in a hearse instead. Talk about making a statement.
When the duo arrived at the Pennsauken High School’s junior prom Saturday, her date was driving the hearse. But Megan was nowhere to be seen. That was because she was in back in the coffin. Her date had to prop up the coffin and get her into the dance.
After Megan got out of the coffin, she revealed her fashionable blue dress.
Because her prom entrance was so strange, Inside Edition tracked down Megan’s family for a comment. They got in touch with her mom, Susan Flaherty. She told the news source that Megan hopes to be a funeral director someday.
“It’s not for everyone — death is a touchy thing,” Flaherty said. “Some people are afraid of it, but that is her chosen profession, and she was celebrating what she wanted to do with her life after high school.”
Most people, especially high school juniors, would have refused to go along with Megan’s strange entrance. But her date is so enamored with her, he didn’t care.
Megan did not get the idea to become a funeral director out of thin air. One of her friends is a funeral director and she knows for certain that that is the career path for her. She has actually worked at the funeral parlor, picking up odd jobs whenever she can. She enjoys being around the dead bodies and helping families put their loved ones to rest.
She has been hired to vacuum the viewing room and to hand out prayer cards during funerals.
“Right now, she’s going to grab onto his coat tail and get as much knowledge as she can,” Flaherty explained. “It’s not for everyone. It’s for you or it’s not – and it is for her.”
