During the summertime, corn on the cob is the perfect side dish to any classic summer food like steak or burgers. But if you don’t know an easy way to shuck corn, it can be very frustrating and messy to prepare. Shucking corn can also be very time consuming. So what do you do when you’re in a pinch and don’t have time to shuck each piece of corn or simply don’t want a mess?
Believe it or not, you can use your microwave for an easy way to shuck corn. Plus, there are three different methods you can try. These methods for shucking corn will leave no silk or mess behind and you will be able to fully remove the corn from the husk without any frustration.
What You’ll Need to Easily Shuck Corn:
Easy Way to Shuck Corn Method 1: Cook in Husk
The first easy way to shuck corn does not involve any extra work. In fact, you have to make very minimal changes to the way you normally cook and shuck corn. The biggest difference is that you will need to cook the corn in the husk.
Follow these simple steps to easily shuck corn:
Cook: Leave the corn in the husk when cooking corn and cook it as normal.
Cut: When you’re done cooking your corn and it has cooled, take a knife and cut off the end as shown in the video below.
Shake: Carefully shake and slide your corn out. There will be no silk left on the corn and it will be ready to eat.
Easy Way to Shuck Corn Method 2: Nuke and Shake
The second method for an easy way to shuck corn is called the “nuke and shake” method. America’s Test Kitchen has coined the “nuke and shake” method to remove the husk and silk.
Cut: Start by cutting from the stalk end, one inch above the last row of kernels.
Microwave: Place your corn on a plate and microwave it for two to four minutes.
Shake: The microwave creates just enough steam to separate the corn from the husk and silk. Grab the corn by the uncut end and shake it and squeeze it at the same time. The corn should slide out without any mess.
Easy Way to Shuck Corn Method 3: Microwave and Cut
Microwave: Microwave untrimmed corn for four minutes for each ear of corn. If you are cooking two ears of corn, microwave for eight minutes total.
Cut: Cut off the stalk end of the corn. Be sure to cut all the way through the husk.
Shake: Grab the top of the husk and shake out the corn. There should be no silk or husk left on the corn.
