A close call doesn’t get much closer than this. After three gang members stabbed and brutalized a police officer with a box cutter, they restrained him and then started dragging the cop into the woods. There, they would have done God knows what with the poor man. Although the cop was bleeding and beaten to a pulp, he still had enough resistance in him to press a button that would end up saving his life.
The button released his backup K-9 unit waiting in his cruiser. And when he did, the canine unleashed its fury.
This incident occurred back on May 25, 2015. The officer was Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Frazier. And at the time, he was not sure if he was going to see the light of day ever again. The gang members were eager to kill him and leave his body for the wolves.
But when Frazier got his hand free, he was able to press the button that released his K-9 unit from his cruiser. The dog ran over and started attacking the three abusers right there near the edge of the woods. They were horrified and no match for the police dog.
Although his life had been threatened, Deputy Frazier of Hancock County, Mississippi, survived the threat on his life. If it was not for his canine buddy, Lucas, Frazier might not have made it out of the woods alive. But the K-9 unit, which is a black Belgian Malinois breed, came through when his human companion needed him most.
Deputy Frazier had been completing an ordinary call as he went to investigate a lone male sitting in his car at a rest stop. Someone had called in the incident worried that the man might not be all right.
As Deputy Frazier approached the vehicle to make a welfare check, two other men ambushed him. And in a matter of moments, the officer was outnumbered three to one. And he didn’t have a chance in hell of winning that fight against the gang.
“I had three people on me, and I’m not a very big man, and they basically whipped my butt,” Frazier admitted after his dog saved his life.
The attackers told Frazier they were going to kill him. So in a desperate situation, Frazier fought to free his hand as they dragged him into the woods.
“I had a button on my belt that I wear, and when I hit the button Lucas jumped out of the car and attacked all three of them, and they ran away.”
If it weren’t for the K-9 unit, Deputy Frazier would not have survived the gang attack.
Frazier admitted, “That’s why he’s my hero.”
Although Frazier could not handle the three attackers, Lucas quickly took them down. While the odds were not in the dog’s favor, he was not deterred and continued to attack them until they were too cowardly to face the dog and his human companion.
“He knew. I could hear him coming. I couldn’t see anything because the blood was all in my eyes, but I could hear him coming, growling, and making these sounds.”
What do you think about this dog’s heroism?
