Cops Need Help Identifying Woman Who Left Baby In Airport Bathroom With Concerning Note

Authorities in Arizona are looking to find the woman believed to have left a newborn baby in the Tuscon Airport in January. They have released photos and video of the woman, seen holding something wrapped in a blue blanket. The baby boy was born at the Tuscon Airport and left in a family bathroom in the baggage claim area with a note. An airport employee found the infant abandoned in the restroom, lying on a changing table, cleaned and wrapped up after his birth.

The Tuscon Airport Authority noted that “An investigation of video and witnesses indicates it is possible the mother, who has yet to be identified, gave birth to the baby boy sometime around 9pm.”

The note left with the baby reads: “Please help me. My mom had no idea she was pregnant. She is unable and unfit to take care of me. Please get me the authorities so they can find the boy a good home. I just want what’s best for him, and it is not me. Please. I’m sorry.”

The baby is reportedly healthy and is currently in the care of the Arizona Department of Child Safety. Arizona is a “safe haven” state, which allows parents to leave newborns at designated locations if they feel they can’t care for the child. Since an airport is not one of the designated areas (typically hospitals and churches), the woman who abandoned the baby could face criminal charges.

Many weighing in with comments on the Daily Mail’s coverage of the story were relieved that the baby was unharmed, with notes including:

“Leave her alone. Thank God she didn’t harm the baby. We want women to do what she did rather than kill their babies, yet we hunt them down after they do it. Why? Is it to set them up so that they can care for the child? If not, bless that family who wants to adopt and keep it moving,” “Leave her alone, she didn’t kill him,” and “Thank you for not harming your baby.”

Others wondered how the woman didn’t realize she was pregnant, with one commenter asking: “How do you not know you are pregnant and carry a baby to full term? One has to be completely out of touch with their body.”

Another person responded, “If you’re ‘fat’, I think it can go unnoticed, but if you’re a normal weight like me, impossible. I looked like I had 2 foot beach ball protruding from my belly.”

Another commenter offered: “She knew she wasn’t fit to be a mother and she did the best she could with what she had at the time. Would you prefer that she kept him and tried to raise him herself? If she had, and needed assistance you would call her a moocher and shame her for accepting welfare. And for all we know she might have had protected sex and still gotten pregnant. Stop judging others when you know nothing of their life.”

In response, another person pointed out: “Safe Haven drop off locations and laws are there for a reason. Hospital/fire station etc, no questions asked, no laws broken. Each state is different but they all have some protection in play.”
