Country Star Says She Supports Donald Trump, But After The Backlash She’s Forced To Apologize

While celebrities seem to have it made, with high incomes and glamorous gigs, it’s not always all it’s cracked up to be. When someone is in the public eye they have to constantly be cautious about what they say and how they present themselves, because it only takes a matter of minutes for their words to be misconstrued. Shania Twain experienced this firsthand just recently.

In a recent interview, 52-year-old Canadian singer, Shania Twain mentioned that she would have voted for Donald Trump as president. As to be expected, Twain was instantly criticized on a number of internet sites and social media platforms. Feeling the need to clarify her statement, Twain came back and made a special public apology…

“I would like to apologize to anybody I have offended in a recent interview with the Guardian relating to the American President. The question caught me off guard,’ wrote Twain in a post shared on her Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. “As a Canadian, I regret answering this unexpected question without giving my response more context.”

She also went on to state that she is well aware of the sociopolitical climate and made it clear that her core values have been centered around being inclusive.

Defending her comment, Twain went on to say the following…

“I am passionately against discrimination of any kind and hope it’s clear from the choices I have made, and the people I stand with, that I do not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President. I was trying to explain, in response to a question about the election, that my limited understanding was that the President talked to a portion of America like an accessible person they could relate to, as he was NOT a politician. My answer was awkward, but certainly should not be taken as representative of my values nor does it mean I endorse him. I make music to bring people together. My path will always be one of inclusivity, as my history shows.”

Twain did share that she appreciated Twain’s honesty and transparency. The scrutiny came from the statement she made in her initial interview…

“I would have voted for Trump because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both,” she said. “If I were voting, I just don’t want bulls***. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation for not being that, right?”

Several people jumped to the conclusion that Twain was a shallow Trump supporter and they were quick to mock and criticize her, however; she evidently just didn’t word her feelings properly. This is a perfect example of a celebrity having to monitor everything that they present to the world, as they are quick to be judged. It’s as if celebrities are looked at as being perfect and above and beyond the average human, but they are just like the rest of us and they falter, slip and make mistakes.
