Dad Has Simple Method To Deal With His Toddler’s Tantrum In Store, Goes Viral Overnight

Updated September 12, 2017

If you have a child over three-years-old then there is a good chance that you’ve dealt with your fair share of temper tantrums. When it comes to facing these types of outbursts, very few parents know what they are doing by they try different tactics until they figure out one that actually works. It can be an extremely frustrating stage to go through and when you are in a public place, it goes beyond frustrating and turns into embarrassing.

One dad is changing the way parents deal with these irrational outbursts and it’s not surprising because he has proof that his method works.

When Terel Rico Relz Crawford was at a Walmart with his young daughter, he faced what all parents dread…an epic meltdown in the middle of the store. Instead of scolding her right then and there, he calmly brought her outside, sat her down on the hood of his car and made her wait it out until she was ready to go back inside and act appropriately. In the video, which has been viewed 20 million times, he shares his advice to other parents.

“This is what happens when you spoil your kids,” said Crawford. “Even if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, don’t put one in your kid’s mouth.”

The video starts with Crawford looking at the camera completely unamused as his daughter cries hysterically in the background. After a few seconds, in a completely calm tone, he asks his daughter if she is going to stop whining so they can go back in the store.

“I’m not taking you back into Walmart until you stop with your mess,” he goes on to say as she starts coming down from her tantrum.

Question of the week: If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?

He doesn’t raise his voice or promise the girl a toy, instead, he simply tells her they can go back in the store and walk around when she stops her mess. He goes on to tell her that walking around the store is a privilege and they don’t need to do it.

“I don’t beat my kids,” Crawford says, as he explains that his mother ‘beat the hell out of him,’ but that’s not his style. “I take stuff from them. I make them sit down.”

Crawford admits that he is not perfect and that sometimes he yells at home, but his best advice is to take the child somewhere boring. He can handle the fits that his daughter throws but he’s not going to accept when she refuses to listen after she is told to stop doing something.

“If your children don’t learn by you teaching, then who are they going to learn by?” says Crawford. “We buy the stuff they get. We take it away from them when they don’t deserve it.”

He tells his daughter to wipe the tears from his eyes in a tough love manner and she obeys right away.

The little girl finally comes to her senses and she is giggling in no time. As the two walk back into the story, Crawford explains how we all start out a having bipolar and he secretly tells the camera how crazy kids are.

Commenters loved Crawford’s video…

“His face @ the beginning is PRICELESS 💓 LOVE IT. My brother who’s a single father of 7yr twin boys. He did the same thing with them. The Shimmy Shake @ the end is adorable. Hats off to you sir & your family. God bless.”

“Bravo 👏👏👏👏 giving Mom time to get one major chore done without a crying baby, while also proving to be a good tempered yet firm dad is possible. I’ve seen dad’s just up and walk away leaving Mom to deal with the situation, while they’re in the games/electronics, tools and automotive, or even sporting goods sections browsing. Thank you for thinking to record and sharing with the world!”
