Tim Allen’s political views are no mystery. The successful Hollywood actor has come out and proclaimed himself a conservative many years ago – and despite the heated environment and anti-Republican landscape of Hollywood, Allen has leaned on his talent and continued to thrive despite the adversity. But after the sudden cancellation of Tim Allen’s hit conservative TV show “Last Man Standing,” many fans are questioning ABC’s motivation. Did they cancel the show because it had a conservative message? Did they cancel it because Tim Allen is a Republican? The politically correct network refused to respond to these claims and remained silent on firing Tim Allen – until today.
Because the show depicted a conservative lifestyle, it was a hit among Republican viewers. But the liberal Democrats at the head of ABC did not care if the show had 8 million regular viewers, they wanted the show off the air for “undisclosed” reasons.
Behind the gargantuan hit “Modern Family,” Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” was the second most popular show on the network. Why would they cancel a money maker unless they were politically motivated to do so?
When ABC canceled his show, Tim Allen logged onto Twitter to share his outrage at the low blow: “Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years. #lastmanstanding.”
The May 16 tweet went viral with more than 66,000 likes and tens of thousands of retreweets and replies.
But now ABC Entertainment President, Channing Dungey, has come forward to say that politics had nothing to do with firing Tim Allen. During the Television Critics Associations’ press tour, Dungey unburdened himself to The Wrap:
“Politics had absolutely nothing to do with it – we have actors on our shows who have all sorts of different political views.”
The president even continued by stating that Allen was a “valuable” asset to ABC, like he an insignificant investment they could do with what they willed.
“Tim Allen is a valuable part of the Disney ABC family and has been for a very, very long time. Last Man Standing was a show that, several years running, kind of came up to the very end in terms of the renewal, which was the same case this year.”
Then Dungey admitted that she was disappointed that the show was canceled – like she didn’t have a say in the matter.
“[The cancelation of ‘Last Man Standing’] was a disappointment to me because it was a high-quality show that was very well done.”
Instead she said that ABC didn’t have “room” for the conservative show.
Country Music Television played with the idea of picking up the show because so many blue collar Republicans loved it. But after salary negotiations with Tim Allen couldn’t be worked out, they quit on the show too.
Despite what the ABC Entertainment President says, do you think the cancelation of “Last Man Standing” was a political decision? Was the network trying to get rid of Tim Allen because he is a proud Republican?
