Dog Found Tied Around Tree With Note, But His Story Has a Happy Ending

A dog who was left abandoned, tied to a tree, has found a forever home. Zeus had a note attached to his collar that explained his owner’s situation, with a bag of dog food nearby.

The note read: “Hi my name is Zeus. I am a very good dog. My owner just can’t afford me anymore. She tried to find me a home but nobody would take me. My birthdate is 7/5/15. I am still very young and energetic. I am good with kids and cats but I get scared when meeting new dogs. Please find me a good home to go to.”

The note added: “P.S. Male husky/black lab mix. He is fixed but not up to date on his shots. I am left with no other options for him. I hate to do this but I just can not afford him anymore.”

The Prince George County Animal Shelter posted photos of Zeus on Facebook after his rescue, explaining: “Zeus was completely failed by his last owner. Can you be Zeus’ forever family?”

Zeus’ story had a happy ending, as he was adopted the same day, with the shelter providing the following update: “Zeus has been adopted! Thank you to everyone who has shared Zeus’ post and led to an adoption for him!”

The shelter added: “For anyone who may find themselves in need of rehoming a pet, please reach out to your local animal services. Many areas have resources to assist if they can not assist personally. We are not sure this owner lived in our county. If they did, please know you may call us. We are always here to assist whether it be with resources that can help financially, with feeding your pet, or even with surrendering him or her to us.”

They later shared a photo of Zeus with his new family, writing: “Zeus has found his fairy tale home at last. Zeus’ new family are wonderful pet owners who will give Zeus the kind of home that loves him for life this time. Thank you so much to Zeus’ new family for giving him a wonderful home!”

Those responding to the shelter’s post about the dog’s new family were pleased to hear that he was adopted, with comments such as: “Such good news happy for Zeus and his new owners. He’s such a sweet looking pup” and “He is a pretty fur baby. So happy he has a forever home.”

Another commenter believed that the dog’s first owner would find some peace in seeing that Zeus was adopted, but another commenter didn’t see if that way, noting: “Peace? They left him tied to a tree with a goodbye note, highly doubt the previous owner would care considering that.”

One person commented that perhaps there were other circumstances and not to judge, given that Zeus was rescued and is now in a good home: “I hope the previous owner gets to see how happy Zeus is. One can never know what someone is going through that would drive them to feel like this is their last option. I know from very personal experience it is difficult to re-home a pet under any circumstances, and if finances were involved…it’s just so hard to know where to turn. I’m so glad Zeus found you and your family, Katherine! What a jackpot!!”
