Pit bulls get a bad reputation, mostly because a lot of pit bull owners are irresponsible or mean. But if you have ever known a pit bull yourself, you know they are just about the sweetest most loving dogs around, and they are smart as a whip too.
We just found a fun video shot by a man who has a pet pitbull. In this clip, he asks the dog to find his baby, and the dog, named Diesel, is ready, willing, and able! You are going to love this clip when you see how gentle and smart Diesel is.
This clip proves that not only are pit bulls extremely smart dogs, they are remarkably gentle as well. The moment when Diesel stuck his wet snout into the baby’s face nearly melted our collective hearts.
Pit bulls get a lot of grief from landlords, cops, and the general public as being vicious and mean, but nothing could be further from the truth.
For starters, the breed of a dog plays far less of a role in its aggressiveness than its surroundings and training. Why are so many pitbulls so badly behaved? Because the people that gravitate towards muscular, powerful, “macho” breeds of dogs, often tend to be negligent caregivers for those dogs.
Simply put, a bad dog is the result of bad dog ownership. And even dogs that have been severely mistreated or neglected can still be rehabilitated, although this may often require professional dog trainers.
One in four animals brought into shelters are pit bulls or pit-associated breeds and mixes, currently the most (wrongly) marginalized dogs in the U.S. and many other parts of the world.
Pit bulls and Rottweilers are among the most maligned breeds because of the way their owners treat them. This makes them difficult to place in an adoptive home, but If you don’t have any special considerations and your landlord has no stupid breed restrictions, you may consider a Pitbull from the pound. They are far more likely than any other breed to be euthanized rather than placed with a loving home. These dogs can be among the most loving and playful dogs around. They are smarter and more cuddly than they are generally given credit for, and they love to run in the park. These little guys are perfect for people who have active lifestyles such as swimming and jogging.
Now that you know all this information, are you ready to get involved? The obvious best way to help is by adopting a dog from a shelter instead of hiring some chi chi private breeder or patronizing stores that perpetuate the puppy mill industry. While many rescue animals do come with health or behavioral issues, love overcomes all, right? However, If you just can not take a pet full time, then please volunteer at a shelter. They always need compassionate helpers to walk the dogs and pet the cats. And if even donating time is too much of a hassle, you can always remember rescue shelters in your annual giving. Even the smallest of donations can help feed the animals or provide much needed veterinary care.
