While you may have experienced a random act of kindness from a stranger before, these types of incidents are typically few and far between. But, when they do happen, we remember them forever. It could be something as simple as someone holding a door open for you, or maybe someone let you go before them at a four-way-stop when it was their turn to go. These little actions have the ability to brighten up our days and give us hope in humankind.
Jolie Welling was recently the recipient of quite a major act of kindness while she was with family and friends at an Applebee’s celebrating her daughter Sofia’s 6th birthday. The 16 guests in attendance, didn’t hold back from ordering full meals, including drinks and appetizers and Jolie brought in her own decorated cupcakes to mark the special day.
After Sofia blew out her candles and their meals were enjoyed, it was time for Jolie to pay the bill. Since it was her daughter’s birthday party, she had intended on picking up the entire tab so everyone could enjoy themselves without having to worry about the bill.
Jolie flagged down the waitress who had been serving them, but instead of taking Jolie’s money, she instead made the following announcement…
“An anonymous person paid your whole tab.”
When Jolie tried to press the waitress hoping to find out who the kind person was, the waitress refused to tell her as she was sworn to secrecy.
It turns out that a couple had paid the tab and evidently this couple has been doing this for years and they like to remain anonymous. The only information that Powell did disclose about the couple is that the man had said the following about his acts of kindness…
“I grew up poor and now I’m not.”
The restaurant’s assistant manager, Bernie Lewis, has been sworn to secrecy and refuses to share the name of the couple.

Jolie and several others at the table started to tear up a bit when the announcement was made, and they were completely taken aback by the random act.
“Life is so complicated as it is, and you just work and work and work and struggle, and you try to enjoy every moment you can,” said Jolie. “Having my 6-year-old see that someone did this act of kindness really shows her that there are good people in this world.”
Jolie plans on paying it forward and picking up someone else’s tab in the near future.
Little Sofia thought it was a very nice gesture and it made her happy.
It is moment’s like this that make us see that there are good people in the world even in the midst of all the bad things that happen on a daily basis. Surely, Sofia and Jolie will be sharing this story forever and their hearts will be touched by the random act of kindness committed by a stranger.
It sounds like the mystery couple appreciates the money that they have now, after struggling when they were young, and they are sharing their wealth with others.
