Most families adopt dogs as companions. But some people still rely on their canine best friends for protection. But Tristan Murrin and his mother didn’t think their German shepherd Oden had the fighting spirit in him. He was always so kind and gentle. But when he greeted them at the door the other day, he was wagging his tail as usual, but he was covered in blood. Then Tristan and his mom saw the trail of blood on the first floor, the second floor stairs and splattered on the wall. Trusty Oden had attacked a home intruder while Tristan and his mom had been out. Good thing they had their dog…
When they first saw the blood, Tristan had no idea what had happened. He first worried that Oden had hurt himself by accident. But because the dog seemed proud of himself and not hurt, Tristan and his mom soon realized that an intruder must have broken in and tried to rob them blind.
Blood droplets were spread over the first floor. But as Tristan and his mother began to climb the stairs, they found a scene right out of a slasher film.
Tristan and his mom were horrified. But Oden didn’t seem bothered by the blood splatter at all.
“We looked upstairs and you could see trails of blood coming from upstairs, going all the way down,” Tristan told WRIC.
Oden had also gotten the intruder’s blood splattered on the walls upstairs. Because Oden was there, nothing was stolen. The intruder must have been too busy trying to fend off the German shepherd to steal the items he had come for. And by the time Tristan and his mom had gotten home, the intruder had fled the scene.
Their neighborhood has been victimized by numerous robberies in the last few weeks. But this time, the intruder did not get away with stolen goods. He only escaped with his life.
Tristan was shocked that Oden had been aggressive. He has never seen him do anything like that.
“He plays with the kids, the cul-de-sac knows him,” Murrin said. “The community loves him, the kids come up to him and want to touch him and play with him.”
Tristan couldn’t be prouder than Oden for defending the home.
“I think the dog did its job,” he said. “He knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home and he knows that [the intruder] wasn’t supposed to be in there and was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing.”
Because the blood-splattered scene was unbelievable, Tristan filmed it an uploaded it to Facebook.
Because they want to find the intruder, Tristan is glad his story has gone viral. He posted the video of the gruesome dog attack on Facebook, with the following caption:
“My best friend Oden who is a German shepherd, protected my home and belongings when I wasn’t there, I couldn’t be more proud of him. Such an amazing breed that’s why everyone who doesn’t have an actual dog should consider on adopting or buying a dog. Please share and like to get the story out.”
