If you want to prove your strength, then you’re going to have to upstage 37-year-old Robert Nababan. He works as a security guard and jumped at the opportunity to protect people against a gargantuan 25-foot-long python that appeared on the property. He works on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia and wrestled with the snake after it clamped its powerful jaws down on his arm. And as he fought off the huge snake, other villagers came to join the battle. Eventually they hit the snake with a log and killed it. And when the thing was dead, they cooked it and ate it to celebrate the battle won. But Nababan the brave did not fair so well. Because the python nearly tore off his arm, he had to go to the hospital and get it fixed.
The brutal battle nearly took off Nababan’s arm. The 25-foot python was brutal and viscous. The security guard came across it as he patrolled an oil palm plantation. And because he was in the remote area of Batang Gansal which is a sub-district on the island of Sumatra, the snake was at home among the trees.
After seeing the giant snake, Nababan tried to capture it. He chased after the slithering serpent and snagged it up in a gunnysack. But it wasn’t easy catching a 25-foot long snake. The python fought back and got its jaws latched around Nababan’s left arm. And as it tore into the security guard’s flesh, the reptile nearly pulled it off.
Because the security guard was not clearly winning the fight, other villagers rushed over to help. They grabbed a thick log and slammed it against the reptile’s head. And this ended up saving Nababan’s life – and potentially his arm.
Because there was no hospital in the remote area, he was rushed to the emergency room in the neighboring town. And while he was getting medical care for his arm, the locals showed off the huge python and snapped pictures. Then they chopped it up and fried up the snake meat. The deadly python became a feast for a number of villagers.
Nababan who remains in the hospital was deemed a hero in the local community. From his hospital bed, he spoke to the news media.
“I tried to catch it. It bit my arm, and we wrestled for a while.”
Meanwhile, the police chief Sutarja, told AFP that “The python was 7.8 metres long (25.6 feet), it was unbelievably huge.”
Usually the species of giant python only reach up to 20 feet in length. They are common in Indonesia and the Philippines. This reptile was larger than normal.
Six months before this story came out, a 25-year-old Indonesian farmer was found in the stomach of a giant python. The snake was swollen. And it was found after the man disappeared while he was supposedly harvesting his crops at his farm on the island of Sulawesi toward the east.
What do you make of this battle between the security guard and the giant python?
