If one thing is very common in the United States, it is lawsuits. Lawsuits happen every day, in every part of the country, and are typically a good way for people to ensure that justice is given to those who have cheated, harmed, or caused anguish to anybody unfairly.
Lawsuits range over an infinite number of topics, however if there is one type of lawsuit that has been found to really stir a lot of attention it is the type of lawsuits that involve people asking for hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars from food and entertainment industries for damages caused by their failure to carry out their service correctly.
One woman from Houston, Texas named Katherine Mize had a very painful experience when she went to go get some Starbucks coffee in the morning for herself and some coworkers.
Mize said that she was going through he drive through, and she was being served by a barista named Brie who handed her two of the three cups of coffee that she ordered fine, but when she went to receive the third cup, Brie squeezed the cup a little too much and caused the top to pop off. Then, the 20 ounce cup was dropped, and the Mize says she was showered with “boiling liquid” which caused a lot of damage to her leg.
When Mize was burnt by the coffee, she allegedly jumped out of the car and started hollering in pain, but none of the other workers came to help her.
Her friend came to bring her to the hospital, and she reported that her skin was “falling off in sheets” to the point where there was almost no skin left.
Mize is suiting Starbucks for negligence, saying that they have unreasonably dangerous coffee and is suing the barista Brie for failure to secure the top of the cup as well as failure to safely handle the hot coffee along with failure to help her when she was first injured.
Because of her injuries, Mize says that she has lost almost a month of work, and has underwent severe physical and mental anguish.
In total, she is seeking $200,000 to $1 million in damage for what happened to her.
This is not the first time a ridiculous lawsuit has happened over spilled coffee either. In fact, just last year a woman from New Mexico successfully earned $2.9 million after she spilled some coffee on herself from McDonald’s after having to suffered grafting and severe burns.
Starbucks has also come out with a statement saying,
‘The health and safety of our customers and partners (employees) is always our top priority. We are evaluating the customer’s claims and determining the appropriate steps.”
Whether Mize will get her sum is yet to be determined.
