Ask two people to look at the same thing, and they’re bound to describe something different. It’s just the nature of human experience. And the differences are even more pronounced when viewers from different cultures are asked to participate.
While we all know that we see the world differently, it is not always a cultural difference. Sometimes it is our brain playing tricks on us. Because our brains want to be efficient and see the world quickly (it does promote survival after all), it will fill in the blanks for us and “cheat” to give you an image. That’s why 3D illusions and other things happen. Our brain tries to make sense of a mess and gives us the wrong answer.
The following quiz below, which is called “The Dot Test” was created by Playbuzz back in September 2016. Since its creation, it has been circulating the internet challenging people to solve its seemingly simple questions. But far more people get stumped than they think and the results are mixed.
Are you ready to take “The Dot Test” and see how your spatial awareness stacks up against society’s? Scroll down and accept the challenge now!
For those who get most of the answers right, you’ll be awarded the following responses: “You’re officially smarter than others! You hit all the dots correctly which means that you have an incredible ability to understand what you see, analyze and calculate it immediately. On top of that, you’re very patient when you need to be and that gives you the peace of mind to actually concentrate and reach the right conclusion instead of giving up and pick a random solution. All these indicate that you’re officially smarter than most of the population. That’s pretty impressive and you should be proud of yourself. Woot woot!”
But what about people who do not fare so well?
You’ll simply be asked to “Try again… We know you can do it, because you are smart! Yes you are. Just take a deep breath, concentrate and hit the dots again! Good luck.”
It seems like Playbuzz is too nice to label those without spatial awareness anything unkind.
But how do people feel about the challenge? Here are a few replies from people on Facebook.
“Got them all. Not difficult if you can count and decipher the midpoint of the up and down rows,” Frances Formiller Danna wrote.
Some people figured out a trick to find the right answer. But because this means you don’t have think on your feet, users suggest adding a timer.
“they should add timer for stuff like that… give like 3-4 sec for each so you cant just count your way to the middle. this way its way too easy,” shared Petr Sobotka.
Others were unable to get them correct.
“Oh and there was me thinking I was clever when I got them all correct,” Pam Woodcock wrote.
