Being a parent is the hardest job on earth. A life is in your hands and not only do you need to make sure the baby survives and thrives, but you have to lead by example and be a role model to the child. This can be hard. If the parent had never had anyone look up to them before, it certainly happens as the baby grows up. And because it is very hard to be a parent, others need to start cutting parents a break when they do something that appears strange. So long as they’re not hurting the child, parents should not be shamed for their strange methods of raising a life. Yet some people like to lurk in the shadows and pounce as soon as they find a parent in a compromising position. And that is what happened at an airport recently.
Because Molly Lensing is an exhausted mother of three, she has to run around all the time and never gets a break for herself. But while at the airport last year, someone with a smartphone logged onto social media and shamed Molly for putting her baby on the floor. Although the social justice warrior had no idea what Molly was dealing with at the time, they seized the opportunity to publicly shame her for the way she was raising her kids.
Molly had no idea that someone with a smartphone was taking pictures of her and her baby and sharing judgments on social media. The stranger was watching her closely and criticizing every little move she made.
In the image, Molly is seated on a chair at the airport engaged with something on her phone. Her infant is on a blanket sleeping on the floor by her feet.
He shared the image of Molly on his Facebook page and called her an “idiot” because her baby was sleeping on the floor while she was on her phone.
Soon thousands of people started sharing their outraged at Molly despite having no context and without the mother’s permission.
Since then, Molly has been on a crusade to explain what was happening and clear her name.
“We had the unfortunate luck of being stuck in the middle of the Delta computer shut-down,” Molly told TODAY Parents .
Apparently, Molly’s flight had been delayed and rescheduled several times. She was stuck in the airport for more than 20 hours with her 2-month-old daughter named Anastasia.
It is not easy to fly with a baby let alone get stranded in the airport for 20 hours. Like the woman went viral for dancing at the airport when she got stranded, Molly went viral for all the wrong reasons.
With hours of delays, Molly was exhausted. And although she works as a pediatric nurse and knows how to keep babies healthy, her social media critics did not once ask for her side of the story.
“Anastasia had been held or in her carrier for many hours. My arms were tired. She needed to stretch,” Lensing said. “And I had to communicate with all the family members wondering where the heck we were. I absolutely feel as though my privacy was violated.”
