His Method To Cooking Pasta Might Look Strange, But It Comes Out Perfect Every Time (video)

You’ve likely seen the mug cake recipes before, but you’ve probably never seen a mug put to use for a main course meal quite like this!

Turns out you don’t need loads of preparation and cooking time to pull off a delicious Italian meal. The best part? If you just need a single serving meal or want to create an easy and fun dinner party dish, this might just become your favorite meal.

Check out the video for the Rigatoni Pasta Pie in a Mug from Tip Hero, which comes together very easily, provided you cook your pasta ahead of time. After that, you can quickly assemble this meal and bake it in just 20 minutes.

The recipe has only five ingredients and takes about 10 minutes of prep time:

1 cup marinara sauce
⅓ cup mozzarella heese, shredded
2 teaspoons fresh basil, chopped
¼ pound rigatoni pasta, cooked and cooled
1 tablespoon parmesan cheese, grated

The process is simple: preheat the oven to 400°F / 205°C. Then spread a spoonful of marinara sauce in the bottom of an oven safe coffee mug. Sprinkle 1-2 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella on top, then a add a sprinkle of basil and the remaining mozzarella cheese. Then add a layer of marinara sauce to cover the cheese.

Next you’ll add the cooked rigatoni pasta, placing it upright in the cup on top of the sauce and cheese. The pasta should be packed in snuggly because it will better hold its shape, which is important for the final presentation of the dish.

Put a final layer of marinara sauce on top to cover the pasta as well as a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Then bake it for 20 minutes.

After it comes out of the oven, place a plate on top of the mug and flip it over to pop the mini casserole onto the plate. This should be done immediately so that the entire thing slides out easily and the cheese doesn’t stick.

The meal is absolutely gorgeous once plated, with the pasta remaining formed in its upright position and the cheese, basil, and sauce elegantly draping over the top of the dish. Garnish it with basil and another sprinkle of parmesan cheese for an even prettier plate.

If you love the pasta in a mug cooking idea, another great recipe is a macaroni and cheese recipe that can be baked in the microwave in a single serving size.

You’ll need 1 cup of macaroni, 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of shredded cheese, and a handful of spinach. Add the macaroni to the mug, then the water, and microwave for one minute. Then add the spinach and stir. Microwave at 30 second intervals and stir in between until the macaroni is cooked. If there’s excess liquid, pour it out. Then add the cheese and mix.

One person noted in the comments of the mac and cheese video: “Always have paper towels under it to stop the water from pooling. And you’re supposed to stir in 30-60 second increments. When you see the foam stop it and wait a minute to let the pasta soak in hot water. I struggled with that too. This isn’t a mug food you can leave by itself. Watch it until it’s soft enough to eat.”
