If you’ve never had a butter burger, then you simply haven’t lived. This delicious way to prepare a hamburger will blow you out of the water. Yes, it’s fatty. Yes, it’s rich. But that’s exactly why it’s so good.
Check out the recipe below and you’re going to see something that will blow your mind.
According to the video description on the Tested butter burger recipe: “The cooks in [the America’s Test Kitchen] laboratory explain how they tested different ingredients and methods to arrive at this recipe, the result of which is one of the best burgers we’ve ever tasted! It’s ridiculously good!”
So what does it take to make a butter burger?
As you’ll see in the video, it’s pretty easy.
Add some oil to your heated skillet, then place the pre-seasoned burger patties onto the hot surface. Cook it on the hot surface for about three minutes. It will develop a nice hard crust. Then flip it over for one minute and slap the cheese on top of it.
So far it is a regular burger recipe, now wait for the butter part. Grab your room temperature salted butter and slather it onto the toasted burger bun.
When the cheese is melted, place it on top of the unbuttered bun. Top off the burger with onions stewed in water, butter, and salt. It’ll be a juicy looking burger by the time you’re done with it.
Watch the final butter burger be tested at the 6:15-mark in the video below.
When America’s Test Kitchen brought this burger recipe back from Wisconsin, it disgusted the chefs. They said, “I’m either not going to eat that. Or that’s crazy, we’re not going to do that. But then we start tweaking the recipe and we put it out in front of people and they start tasting it…And win people over very quickly with a recipe like this. It seems ridiculous and dangers but it’s very good.”
Nearly one million people have tuned in to watch this recipe. What do they have to say about it? Here are some of the most popular comments:
“Who would’ve thought throwing tons of fat on stuff makes it taste good!” George Ambroziak wrote.
“why is it that Americans eat raw beef? cant you wait a few more minutes for it to cook?” a concerned viewer wrote.
“They’re claiming to replicate a Wisconsin butter burger……..but they’re using “American” cheese!!!!!!!!! No self respecting Wisconsinite uses “American” cheese… because its not cheese… Real Wisconsin recipes use CHEDDAR!” the angry user DeathbyFlyingCDs wrote.
Other people are not so impressed…
“There is a reason why it is local food, no one outside that one town would ever eat that…” Siedler Joe wrote.
“To anyone that this this looks over the top, just remember that here in Milwaukee you usually get fries or onion rings with it and the traditional beverage is a malt or a shake. Super decadent, but it’s something you have maybe once or twice a decade. Remember: moderation in all things, especially moderation,” Benjamin Shaw assures all viewers.
