President Donald Trump has had no problem adjusting to the use of social media and he has been criticized for some of his posts on Twitter. His most recent tweet is aimed at CNN’s Jim Acosta and is laced with compliments, even after he started out by labeling him as “crazy.” In a somewhat flattering post, considering Trump’s reputation for insults, the president shared the following on Twitter…
“Even Crazy Jim Acosta of Fake News CNN agrees: “Trump World and WH sources dancing in end zone: Trump wins again…Schumer and Dems caved…gambled and lost.” Thank you for your honesty Jim!”
It all started when Trump was tuned into CNN on Monday night. During the segment, Jim Acosta shared that one of his White House sources claimed that the end of the government shutdown was being heralded as a victory for Trump.
Acosta’s exact words were the following…
“There’s no denying the president and his allies are spiking the football after this shutdown,” Acosta said. “‘Trump wins again,’ is how one source described it to me. Another White House official crowed that the Democrats ‘caved’ on the shutdown.”
He followed up this tweet with another one…
“Trump world and WH sources dancing in end zone: “Trump wins again… “ Schumer and Dems “caved… gambled and lost.”
Democrats and Republican senators agreed to pass a resolution that would fund the federal government until February 8th. In exchange for open negotiations on extending protections for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).
The government initially shut down when the Democrats and Republicans couldn’t agree. The Democrats were demanding DACA protections and Trump and the Republicans refused to sign a deal that omitted funding for a southern border wall.
Eventually, they agreed to a resolution and Trump said that he is glad that Democrats “have come to their senses.”
Based on the tone of Acosta’s tweets, commenters are claiming that he is pouting and they had some harsh words for him…
“Look at that picture. There it is again, Acosta’s patented CNN Pout. Mommy took his bink so he wet his pants and has to sit in it.”
“He got Acost-ed but probably doesn’t realize it.”
This will most likely be the first of many exchanges between Trump and the Chief White House Correspondent. The two have a past that is tainted with harsh remarks. In May 2016, during a nationally televised news conference, Trump called Acosta a “real beauty” for his reporting. After asking the presidential candidate about his ability to deal with scrutiny, Trump cut him off and sarcastically said, “Excuse me, excuse me, I’ve watched you on TV. You’re a real beauty.”
That was the start of the battle between the president and the correspondent, and on January 11, 2017, at his first press conference, Trump refused to speak to Acosta and called on other reporters instead.
And in another episode, Acosta allegedly got into a heated debate with White House senior policy advisor, Stephen Miller, over the Trump Administration’s support for the RAISE Act.
