Losing weight is hard…but this woman’s transformation is nothing short of remarkable.
Texas woman Mayra Rosales once weighed 1,000 pounds and was dubbed the “Half Ton Killer” after she falsely confessed to killing her nephew by accidentally falling on top of him and crushing him.
She said of her life before she lost the weight: “I was alive but not living a life” and that’s why she confessed to killing her 2-year-old nephew. In reality, her sister killed the child by throwing a hairbrush at his head.
Mayra explained, “I was dying. I don’t know if you had seen pictures before you could see it in my face. I had given up in life.” Her sister eventually confessed to the murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Mayra then moved forward on her weight loss journey so she could care for her sister’s children.
That journey involved 11 different surgeries, including lap band and skin removal procedures, resulting in 800 pounds of weight lost.
Now, Mayra has a new outlook on life, explaining: “Food to me is I have to eat to live. Before it was living to eat, and now you know, it’s just something normal.”
Mayra hoped her story could inspire others, explaining: “Do not lose hope and keep fighting because we only have one life and it’s well worth fighting for it.”
Comments on Mayra’s transformation story on AmericaNow.com included praise, such as: “She looks like a different person now she looks great” and “All I can say is: WOW!!!!!! You look incredible.”
Another person noted: “Wow what a transformation! I wonder how she got the money for the skin removal surgeries since insurance usually does not usually cover it? With that much loose skin to cut away, it must have cost a fortune.”
Not everyone believed her story, however, with one person commenting: “There is no way she could look like that now. She has so much excess skin that it would be impossible to remove it to that degree. So much for photo cropping. There is no story about how she lost the weight. It would take a long time even with bypass surgery to lose nearly 1,000 pounds. And like I said even if she did she would have so much hanging skin.”
This person, however, was familiar with Mayra’s story, noting: “I saw her story on My 600 Pound Life, she was very motivated to lose the weight after a gastric bypass, she has had surgeries to remove the skin, there is another show about her weight loss that she was on , but I forgot what the name of it was, no photo cropping at all.”
Another person added: “Instead of posting something negative, why don’t you take the time to research it. If you watched the show, you would actually see how long it took, the struggles, the pain, and what the skin removals are like, it’s not a quick and easy process.”
And this person shared their own experience, saying: “It is possible. I lost 40 pounds in two months after mine. And, the skin can be removed. If she had the will to take it all the way, anything is possible with all of today’s technology.”
