Little Girl Only Has Months To Live. Her Best Friend Granted Her One Wish Before Surgery

Finding out that your young child is ill and doesn’t have long to live, is surely one of the most traumatic experiences a person can go through in life. When a family gets this type of earth-shattering news, they typically do anything they can to make sure the child’s remaining days on earth are lived fully and happily.

When Sophia Elyssa Chiappalone was born at 38 weeks, her parents thought that was a great start to her life considering it was a longer gestational age than either of her two older sisters had. Unfortunately, Sophia’s luck would take a turn for the worst when doctors discovered there were complications with both the umbilical cord and Sophia. Doctors initially thought that these issues had the potential to lead to death, however; Sophia survived the birth, but moments later her parents would find out some devastating news.

After reviewing Sophia’s echocardiogram a cardiologist called a meeting with her parents. In a very rare case, the entire right side of Sophia’s heart was missing and even with surgery, there was no hope for her to live a long life. As soon as her mom, Kristy Somerset-Chiappalone, heard about her daughter’s shortened life, her stomach dropped. Her biggest fear in life had come true.

While the news was devastating, Kristy immediately jumped into action and created a life for Sophia that she would love while she was alive. One of Sophia’s biggest wishes was to marry her best friend, Hunter and she wanted a real wedding to seal the deal. Kristy and Hunter’s mom were on board and hired a photographer for the mock wedding, where the young couple was clad in wedding attire and went through all of the traditions, making it a memorable day for both families.

“Most people wait a lifetime for someone who wouldn’t stand by them through such illness. She met a best friend and love of her life at 3 who does. You know they say marry your best friend, it just doesn’t usually happen before 1st grade!”

Sassy Mouth Photography posted the photos on their Facebook page and it’s not surprising that they quickly went viral. The photos are both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.

Alongside the beautiful photos, Sassy Mouth Photographer, Marisa Balletti-Lavoie, shared the following caption…

“Sophia Elyssa Chiappalone the beautiful baby with a broken heart had a beautiful little wish…I was so honored and excited to be the one to document the big day!!”

Hunter and Sophia’s friendship is apparent in the photos as they are both glowing.

“She’s a walking miracle,” Kristy said.”There is no life expectancy at this time because there’s no reason for her to be alive.”

Commenters shared their love of the photos…

“Beautiful.Beautiful!! Brings tears to my eyes..but I see so much happiness and a ” True Brides ” look on her smiling face!!”

“She’s so pretty. She’s in my thoughts an prayers.”

Hopefully, Sophia will continue to be a walking miracle and live beyond what the doctors expect. She certainly has a lot of joy in her broken heart.
