When police found two little girls living in a home with “subhuman” conditions, they promptly removed them and brought them somewhere safe. Then they turned around and dealt with the adults in charge. 39-year-old Robert Eugene Clark of Lexington, Virginia and 30-year-old Samantha Simmons were promptly arrested on felony charges. But child endangerment and neglect were not the only crimes these deviant adults were charged with. They’ve been hit with sex crimes unimaginable for most people. Learn more about their deviant behavior below and how much time they’ll be rotting behind bars.
Charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery and taking indecent liberties, Clark was sentenced to 65 years in prison. But after seeing the condition these little girls were found in, you’d think the judge would have hit him with a harsher sentence.
Simmons was sentenced to 43 years behind bars for aggravated sexual battery, sodomy and endangerment of a child.
The nightmare was discovered in 2015. Social workers removed the 3-year-old girl and her 8-year-old sister from the “subhuman” conditions of the place Clark and Simmons called home. The removal of these children was a request from the country sheriff’s office because neighbors kept calling to complain about the child abuse next door.
When Peggy Sigler, a caseworker from the Rockbridge Area Department Social Services, came knocking, she was shocked to find the children. She said of the youngest victim: “She was a feral child; that’s the only way I could describe her.”
The little girls were “subjected to filthy, bug-infested conditions and the whims of incest in a family that spanned three generations of sexual abuse,” reported the Times.
But authorities did not know the extent of what they endured until later. After they were taken out of the bug-infested trailer, they were given to foster parents. That’s when the sisters admitted that Clark had repeatedly raped and sexually abused both sisters. He also forced them to perform sexual acts on each other and whipped them with a belt while they stood naked before him.
“They were taught to perform sexual acts more so than they were taught to brush their teeth,” Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Jared Moon said.
During the trial, it was clear that the supervisor of the property knew about the condition in the trailer. He allegedly said of the abused sisters, “They’re used to living that way so what’s the big deal.” Unfortunately, the grand jury did not level charges against him – although he should have come forward and told the truth years ago.
Because they were taken from the custody of their sexually deviant guardians, the two children are doing much better. They are currently in foster care and show signs of recovery. Unfortunately, the horrendous abuse they endured has left scars that aren’t going away any time soon.
Now the youngest, who is five, cannot enter kindergarten. The abuse she endured has caused her to develop certain disabilities. It if wasn’t for Clark and Simmons, she probably would have grown up to be a normal little girl. But the torture they put her through has scarred her.
The little girl can only identify one color and has learned only basic words and numbers.
