Some people are very particular about their food preferences. Nowadays there are gluten free, dairy free and egg free options in just about anything. You can even make flourless cakes. For whatever reason, there has been a rise in allergies which has led to consumers being extra cautious about what they order at restaurants and what they purchase in grocery stores. But, how far is too far?
Apparently, when one British customer entered a McDonald’s he was on a mission to order the smallest amount of food possible. After giving his order of a cheeseburger with no onions, ketchup, pickles, mustard, bun or meat, the staff questioned one another. “Is this a correct order?”
Evidently, it was, but that meant that he literally went home with a slice of cheese in a to-go burger box. Yep, that’s it…a simple slice of cheese that he probably could’ve snagged from his very own fridge. Maybe he just wanted to enjoy a nice slice of McDonald’s cheese?
Even the customer admits that he doesn’t know what he was thinking, as he tweeted the following after his oddball order…
When asked, he admitted that he paid $1.22 for the slice of classic American cheese, which is the same that he would’ve been charged if he had ordered a cheeseburger with all the fixings. Sounds like a pretty pricey slice of cheese, right?
I ordered a cheese. Not sure what I expected. pic.twitter.com/3MxyKHNIw4

It would be interesting to find out what he actually did with the slice of cheese after he got to his table or his car with it. Did he savor it, taking tiny little bites or did he eat the slice in one big bite?
The employees must’ve thought they were being punked when they received the man’s odd order, but then again, in this day, strange orders aren’t all that off. Servers have it harder than ever as more and more people are dealing with allergies or becoming vegans and vegetarians. One wrong ingredient can turn into a long list of problems. Allergies occur in a wide range of different environmental factors and food is one of them. Food allergies are particularly uncomfortable and detrimental to those who suffer with them and they can affect a variety of different parts of the body including the skin, the gut, lungs, airways and sometimes even the entire body by way of the blood vessels.
While we are guessing that the Mr. Cheese customer at McDonald’s made a mistake when he ordered a burger without the burger and nothing on it but cheese, it would be interesting to find out exactly what he was thinking. Surely he didn’t go to McDonald’s for a simple slice of cheese for $1.22, did he?
There should be a list of oddball orders given by customers in fast food restaurants. Surely Mr. Cheese customer would make the top ten list. But, hey at least he was honest and forthcoming about his accidental order. He even admits that he wasn’t quite sure what he was expecting. Surely, the McDonald’s staff at this location will be laughing about this for a long time.
