Unfortunately, bullying is a hot topic these days because it happens all too often. It usually affects school-aged children and it is typically the outcome of insecurities.
When Teeneshia Bush took her son, Quenterus Brown to a Wendy’s in Alabama, the last thing that she expected was to see the entire restaurant bullying her son. The 15-year-old boy was confused when the workers behind the counter were laughing at him while he was waiting for his food. He got his answer when he saw his receipt. In bold ink, the receipt said “Lil Ugly Dude,” instead of his name.
When he realized they were all making fun of him, he ran out of the restaurant.
As to be expected, Teeneshia was appalled by the incident and she posted a picture of the receipt on Facebook, to share just how upset she was over the worker’s poor behavior.
Along with the photo of the receipt, she wrote…
“This is unacceptable and unprofessional. My child was so embarrassed and upset. The whole store was laughing at him including the manager. You don’t go around making fun of people. You don’t know their situations, that’s bullying,”
She also shared that her son deals with mental health issues so this clearly didn’t do anything to help boost his self-esteem and security.
Clearly, Wendy’s is being criticized for their employees discriminating behavior. The Director of Management Services at Wendy’s issued the following statement:
“Wendy’s has been a part of this community for many years, and we were certainly disappointed to learn that one of our employees treated a guest in such a rude manner. We take this seriously, and we no longer employ this individual. When we learned of the incident, we immediately contacted the guest. We apologized to the young man and his mother and look forward to welcoming them back to Wendy’s again.”
It’s unfortunate that so many people in our society choose to poke fun at others instead of accepting everyone for who they are. Oftentimes, we are born with physical and mental issues that we have no control over, so to make fun of someone you don’t know is incredibly disrespectful. While Wendy’s did the right thing and issued a statement welcoming them back, there is a good chance that Teeneshia and Quenterus are going to stay far away from that fast food restaurant and go to other restaurants where they can feel accepted.
Commenters shared their thoughts on the situation…
“Instead of taking this to Facebook the mom should have taken it directly to Wendy’s corporate headquarters. When did everything need to become a public affair and bring even more embarrassment to her son.”
“If the other workers laughed instead of correcting the guy for doing that they need to be fired too. Free food for the kid and his mother for a year watch who you hire.”
Some pointed out the fact that the employee wasn’t too bright considering she wrote it on the receipt that he would obviously see…
“#1: when making fun of customers, don’t be too loud nor PRINT IT ON THEIR RECEIPT.”
