Criminals are generally not the greatest people on the planet. They thrive on putting others in harm’s way and will do anything to get what they want. Sometimes they are after money and materialistic things and other times they simply want to prey on others, assaulting them or raping them. It’s a sad reality of the world that we live in. The best thing we can do to prevent being preyed upon by a criminal is to be aware and make sure our family and friends are educated when it comes to the tactics used by some of society’s lowest beings.
One of the latest ways that criminals are trying to get to their victims, is by use of a dummy that is the size and shape of a child. One North Carolina Woman learned this the hard way when she was driving home from work at 1:30 am. She had been driving on a long, dark road when she spotted what appeared to be a small child sitting in the road. Thinking the child was in need of help, she pulled over to assist. It was in that moment that two men wearing all black came from nowhere and approached her car, trying to open the doors. Luckily her doors had been lock and she was able to drive off when she realized that the child was not a child after all and it was a dummy that the criminals were trying to use as bait.
The two men were carjackers and they were on a mission to steal the 33-year-old woman’s car. She sped away just in time and informed the police of the situation. Unfortunately, the police haven’t been able to track down the men, but they did confiscate the dummy that is about the size and shape of a toddler. They are urging drivers to beware of these dummies when driving on the road and be sure to lock all car doors at all times.
The technology in today’s cars usually give us the convenience of having our doors automatically lock for us, however; it’s best not to be complacent and always double check because you never know when they will stop working.
Another tip that police suggest is to always check the surrounding area before you get out of your car. They urge you not to just jump out of your car in a rush because you never know when someone is lurking in the area. And of course, if a stranger approaches your car whether they are in a vehicle or not, do not get out of the car. You never know what someone’s intentions are and as they say, it’s best to be safe than sorry.
Police say that one of the best things that we can do is to spread the word to our family and friends. Word of mouth spreads rather fast, especially when shared on social media.
These types of crimes are ongoing and it is best to be vigilant at all times. Never get complacent.
