Preparing for the birth of your child can be a stressful time, but it is usually a time that is filled with joy as there are so many firsts to look forward to. From the moment that a couple finds out that they are expecting a baby, they fill their time with baby preparations including room decor, stocking up on baby supplies, and of course, picking out those adorable baby outfits.
In most cases, a couple finds out the gender of their bundle of joy to make planning somewhat easier, but in other cases, a couple enjoys the once in a lifetime surprise of whether its a boy or a girl.
There is one couple that received a major surprise after they found out they were pregnant with their second child. While only 23-years-old Alexandra Kinova was happy to start a family with her partner Antonin, and they were even more thrilled when the couple discovered that they would be having twins. This news came as a surprise but they were looking forward to adding two little lives to their growing family.
And then, when Alexandra was halfway through her pregnancy, daughters informed her that there were actually four little babies growing in her belly, instead of the expected two. It was as if the twins had replicated and doctors were surprised to see four heads instead of two. By this point, doctors were pretty sure that they had counted correctly, and then there was another surprise.
A month later, doctors realized that there was a fifth head hidden amongst the others. Since there were so many babies hiding in there, it was difficult to get an accurate headcount. The couple also had no idea what the genders of the five babies were, which essentially through all their planning out the window. At this point, it probably didn’t matter much anyways.
While Alexandra and Antonin had no intentions of making headlines the day of the delivery, they were shocked to learn that they were the only parents of quintuplets in the Czech Republic, where they reside.
“In our country (birth) statistics have been recorded since 1949 and there’s no mention of quintuplets. In the Czech Republic quintuplets are born on average once every 480 years.”
The hospital room was so busy during the birth of the quintuplets that 40 staff members had to be in the room for assistance. And miraculously, the births took place without any complications and all five babies were healthy. According to statistics, the chance of conceiving quintuplets naturally are one in seven million. Both Alexandra and Antonin come from families that have twin births so they may have played a role in the chance of conception of multiples.
It’s hard to imagine the combined feelings of joy and amazement that the couple and their families are experiencing as a result of the miracle. Hopefully, they have a lot of friends willing to help out. If they had plans of having a third child in the future, they have already accomplished that dream and then some.
