Pictures like this are very popular on the internet. We spend so much time at our computers nowadays that when we find images like this, they give our brains a much needed break from the routine of analytics, graphs, spreadsheets, and emails.
This got us to thinking about good mental health and what we can do every day to stimulate our minds and increase our mental health and well being. As it turns out, memory is a huge part of what we do with our brains and we can do things to improve it. Here are some quick and easy tips that you can incorporate into your routine to improve your memory right now.
Use rosemary plants to stimulate your senses. There is something about the scent of rosemary that researchers found increased long term memory and mental acuity.
Some food for thought: while there has been no conclusive research done, many people believe that limiting the amount of animal protein, especially red meat, and replacing it with proteins derived from nuts, grains, and vegetable oils and avocado can limit the buildup of the kinds of plaque that disrupt neural connections and can lead to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Exercise regularly. It turns out that physical activity is as good, if not better, for your brain as it is for your waistline. It may have something to do with activity related stress triggering growth hormones, or in increased blood flow to your mind melon. Either way, it’s a good argument for being a muscle head.
All that working out can make you tired. Regular, uninterrupted sleep gives your brain a chance to process and collate all the data it has taken in over the day. Think of it as defragging your hard drive. The longer you go without sleep, the more difficult it is for your brain to keep track of everything that has happened and it may create faulty memory.
Play mind games… Oops, we meant brain games. Its another level of exercise. Crossword puzzles, sudoku, chess, and other challenging games are like bench presses and sit-ups for your brain. A regularly challenged brain develops a higher number of neural pathways that are far more well connected and efficient.
