New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called for a boycott of Chick-fil-A because of their “message of hate”. According to the Mayor because the fast food chain prints Biblical messages on their packaging, their views on marriage are criminal.
But in truth, the fast food chicken joint has ruffled de Blasio’s feathers since it opened its first store in New York last fall.
Despite the mayor’s call for a boycott, New Yorkers continue to line up at the only Christian chicken restaurant. And no matter how hard de Blasio tries to slander the chain, people can’t ignore their taste buds.
When the New York Mayor learned that Chick-fil-A was finally building a store in his neck of the woods, he unleashed a torrent of opposition.
“[Chick-fil-A] imparts a strong anti-LGBT message by forcing their employees and volunteers to adhere to a policy that prohibits same-sex love. … It is outrageous that Chick-fil-A is quietly spreading its message of hate by funding these types of organizations,” Mayor de Blasio warned.
Bill de Blasio then called for every New Yorker to boycott the fast food restaurant.
“I’m certainly not going to patronize them and I wouldn’t urge any other New Yorker to patronize them,” he said.
Although Mayor de Blasio attacked the restaurant’s Christian beliefs, his efforts to influence millions of New Yorkers fell flat. Even some of the most liberal Manhattan residents are supporting the chain because they like how their fried chicken tastes.
Internet star is best known for his viral video “Bed Intruder”, Antoine Dodson has spoken up in support of Chick-fil-A. The actor, who identified as being openly gay, has now given his life to Christ. He believes the restaurant should be applauded instead of boycotted.
“The people at the restaurants are sweet, and they greet me kindly. If we stop coming, them hardworking people in that building no longer have jobs,” he explained. “There’s a picture in this world way bigger … those people work really hard, and they have families and stuff. I’m supporting those hard workers in the kitchen.”
Chick-fil-A chooses their franchisees very carefully. Last year 99.3% of their 20,000 applicants were denied. They have a strict policy that has helped them excel in the chicken business.
Because the company follows Christian values, franchisees must prove that they follow a strict code of ethics. Chick-fil-A restaurants must be closed on Sundays (except during extenuating circumstances) but it’s a special requirement that makes them different than other businesses.
The company believes that “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil”, so franchisees can only operate one restaurant. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme.
“The company’s mindset is that it wants me to be really focused on this location instead of worrying about expanding and managing an enterprise like most fast food franchisees,” said Al Puglisi, who opened the Chick-fil-A at Sixth Avenue and 46th Street.
Do you think Mayor de Blasio is hiding something by calling for a boycott of Chick-fil-A?
