People Are Applauding What Trump Says He Would Have Done If He Was Colin Kaepernick’s Boss

President Trump has some definitive ideas about how he would have handled Colin Kaepernick’s first protest.

During an interview on Hannity earlier this week, Trump said that the NFL should have suspended Kaepernick after his first refusal to stand for the national anthem.

He explained: “The NFL should have suspended him for one game and he would have never done it again. They could have then suspended him for two games, and they could have suspended him if he did it a third time, for the season, and you would never have had a problem. But I will tell you, you can’t disrespect our country, our flag, our anthem…you cannot do that.”

Among those on Twitter who spoke out about the president’s comments was this well put sentiment: “@ Trump:
Kaepernick isn’t prob, systemic racism & brutality & lack of justice are. Stop mak’g about you, address issues raised @realDonaldTrump.”

Kaepernick’s protest prompted other NFL players to take a knee during the national anthem played before games, which the president has been very vocal about.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to team owners saying that players should stand for the national anthem.

Those weighing in with comments on the Fox News Facebook post about the interview had plenty to say, including: “Actually you can. Just as protected as your guns. And last time I checked, peaceful protest didn’t end up with anyone dead.”

Another person added: “Yes, you can. That’s the beauty of living in a republic where liberty is supposed to be prized above all else.”

This commenter tried to clear up the confusion about the protest, explaining: “It’s not a protest against the national anthem. Does it really go in one ear and out the other. Truly listen!! It’s about oppression.”

Just in case it wasn’t totally clear, another commenter broke it down perfectly, writing: “Kaepernick was not kneeling to express contempt for America, the flag or the military. It’s a silent and peaceful protest against police brutality of African Americans. Those using the First Amendment to express an opinion, that others do not like, have the right to do so. Peaceful dissent is an American freedom that many people in the world wish they had. Trump feigns patriotism with his kiss the flag mentality, when he’s the one that is un-American, and against the US Constitution.”

This commenter noted that Trump’s reaction to the protests is simply a distraction: “While Trump distracts Fox News devotees with his faux outrage over young black Americans engaging in peaceful protest…the rest of America is calling him out on his failure of an administration. He’s incompetent and incoherent. The world is watching him destroy our place in it. And all his fans are focused on is their bigotry. Disgusting!”

And this commenter painted a grim look at a sad reality: “This is on the verge of turning into a dictatorship. It’s following that path. Step one, alienate the media. Step two, forced patriotism. Step three, take away right to protest. Step four, lock up all who disagree.”
