Photo Of Two Ordinary Officers Is Going Viral. Look Closely.

Updated November 13, 2017

When something gets posted online, it has the potential to reach the entire globe. While most Tweets, Facebook posts and blogs go mostly unread or unseen, some have a kernel within them that POPS. And when that happens, it’s like magic. The thing quickly goes out of control and thousands and then millions of people are talking about it.

That’s what happened to Officer Brittany Beard Hilton from Texas. She shared a simple photo that showed her and her husband. Her husband, Steven, is also a police officer. Little did Officer Brittany know, but the picture of the pair would quickly explode into a popular image that would get more than 100,000 shares.

The post seems unextraordinary at first. It’s unique because they’re both police officers. It is a pleasing photo as both are smiling. And it was a selfie image captured by Steven.

While the photo might not seem like anything special, the story behind it makes it incredibly unique.

Without its context, the picture would just look like two police officer sitting in a squad car smiling. You wouldn’t even know that they’re married without the backstory on the pair.

But now that the media has made police officers “public enemy number one.” While many community members still love and support their officers, other people are simply hostile. And they have even become antagonistic toward officers everywhere.

Dache Daniaa recently shared via Instagram, “I hate police. They’re so annoying.”

It is not fair that a few cops who did something wrong ruin it for all the other police officers. But that’s what’s happening. The public is jumping down every officer’s throat because a few have gone against their badge.

While some communities are hostile toward police, Officer Brittany and Steven wanted to tell the world via Facebook what they have to deal with on a daily basis.

Brittany posted the photo of her and her husband as a response to all the anti-police negativity going on in the country. She wanted everyone to know that she puts her life on the line for her community.

“Before you say hateful things and put all officers in a category, remember we are all individuals attached to a delicate thin blue line. We are attacked daily and getting killed just for putting on a badge. You voice your opinion and rally against law enforcement over tickets!!! We are risking our lives.”

The law enforcement community might have a few bad apples, but most officers are brave, heroic people like Officer Brittany and her dedicated husband. They’re putting their lives at risk in the hopes of being a service to their community.

Fellow officers understand the struggle. That’s why Thin Blue Line HQ shared a thank you note on Twitter for the post. They wrote:

“We wish to express our gratitude to Officer Brittany Beard Hilton for her service and protection and for posting.”

With Thanksgiving coming up very soon, what are you thankful for? Maybe you know a particular police officer who deserves a personalized ‘thank you.’
