Rare White Lion And Tiger Finally Give Birth To Offspring And They Are Simply The Cutest

Updated October 27, 2016

For the past few years, hybrid breeds, or “designer dogs,” seem to be taking over pet stores and dog breeders. Everyone is curious about the new litters that seem to be popping up everywhere. Labradoodles (lab and poodle mix), Pomapoos (pomeranian and poodle), Airedoodle (Airedale terrier and poodle), and Beaskis (Beagle and Siberian Husky mixed) are some of the many hybrid options.

The word means ‘the offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock,’ and all these breeds are the outcome of a breeder testing out different combinations to see the end result. Sometimes people will even request a specific breed combination. Oftentimes, the end result is positive, but in most cases, these “designer pets,” are sterile and incapable of reproducing.

But what happens, when two animals of different stock get together by their own choice?

In this particular case, the end result turned out to be some of the cutest baby animals in the world.

It was love at first sight when Ivory the lion and Saraswati the tiger met at Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina. Both are rare amongst their fellow lions and tigers, as they are considered albino and share a white coat that makes them stand out. Saraswati’s coat was even absent of the typical markings that are seen on most tigers. The two formed an instant bond, one that seemed to come natural to the rare combo.

After spending some time together, Ivory and Saraswati had their first litter of babies, which turns out the be the very first litter of white “ligers,” in the world. And they are certainly not hurting in the looks department. While the majority of the babies’ coats are white like mom and dads, they also have some golden hues around their heads with splatters of black markings.

The four cuties are named: Odlin, Samson, Yeti, and Apollo. Unlike their mother, all four cubs have stripes.

While the cute cubs will grow up to be well-known as the first white liger litter, they unfortunately won’t be able to procreate. As is the case with the majority of genetic hybrid animals, they will be sterile and won’t be able to pass on that one of a kind beauty. People all over the world are surfing the web in search of this rare cuteness and taking it in before the babies grow up. Baby animals are cute enough as it is, but when you have the added rarity like this case, it is truly a breathtaking sight.

The cubs are growing at a steady pace and gaining on average, one pound a day. They are predicted to be the same size as their parents when they are fully grown and surely they will be a challenge to train and handle, but as of now, the babies are little cuddle bugs. They enjoy pouncing on one another and getting pets from their human friends.

Currently, there are only 300 white lions and 1,200 white tigers left on Earth, making this combo a very rare and special breed.
