This story is hard to believe, but a woman dated a man for 10 years before discovering his dark secret.
The startling discovery? She was dating a serial killer, but never knew for a decade until he was arrested for murder.
Holly Eudy had an affair with Todd Kohlhepp for 10 years, telling Inside Edition: “I knew there was something that didn’t sit right with me about him, but I couldn’t really put my finger on it.”
Kohlhepp, a real estate agent, was arrested in November when a woman he had kidnapped was found chained in a storage container on his 95-acre property. After the chilling discovery, other buried bodies were uncovered on the property.
Kala Brown, who survived the kidnapping, told police the Kohlhepp shot her boyfriend in front of her. She informed authorities that he had buried several bodies on the property as well.
Kohlhepp pleaded guilty to killing seven other people, including four murders that were unsolved for 13 years. Surprisingly, he didn’t get the death penalty, but was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences without parole.
Eudy called her former boyfriend’s crimes “sickening” and “disgusting,” but was completely in the dark about any of it. She was first attracted to him, she explained because “he gave me a lot of attention, made me feel like I was important.”
Eudy explained that Kohlhepp bought the storage container with money she had loaned him, telling her he needed to purchase it for supply storage. She had even seen the container, finding only cans and water inside, and wasn’t suspicious that he intended to use it for disturbing purposes.
Brown discussed her ordeal with Dr. Phil, noting that she had been chained up for two months and raped twice a day by the man.
Eudy watched the video of Brown being rescued from the container after police had heard her screams. In the footage, Brown notes, “Some girl named Holly, he’s supposedly planning to kill,” which Eudy said, “My mouth fell open the first time I heard it.”
In the video, the woman inside said, “I’m chained to the wall and my neck’s chained to the wall here.” They used bolt cutters to remove the chains, reassuring her by telling her, “we’re going to get you out of there” and “you’re okay, we’re here.”
Brown explained, “Todd Kohlhepp shot Charlie Carver three times in the chest, wrapped him in a blue tarp, put him in the bucket of the tractor, locked me down here. I’ve never seen him again. He says he’s dead and buried. He says there are several bodies dead and buried out here.”
The couple visited the home for a cleaning job, but Kohlhepp shot Carver and chained Brown in the storage container. Carver’s body was found on the property in a shallow grave with the remains of two other people.
Among the comments on The Mirror‘s coverage of the story was one that read: “This was horrifying to me, I had watched the Dr. Phil episode on the victim a couple months ago and just ran across this article entirely by accident. My heart goes out to her. I can’t imagine the pain she went through, both with the rape/enslavement and the death of her loving partner.”
