Imagine this. You go to pick up your 1-year-old from daycare and notice an unidentifiable red mark on the baby’s face. It’s a parent’s worst nightmare. You don’t know what it is and the daycare worker isn’t talking. You suspect the worst and then…
Because some mothers have to work, they need to put their children into daycare. It may not be the ideal situation, but it is a necessary fact of life in America. Leaving little ones in the hands of strangers can be hard for most parents, but nonetheless it must happen.
Parents put their trust in daycare workers. So when we hear a story about what Elizabeth O’Rear witnessed on her son’s face, we worry. We can’t help it. We love our children. And we want to protect them.
But we can’t protect them from the very people sworn to protect our children when we’re not there…
Learn the horrible truth about why 1-year-old Dakota Boggess had a horrifying injury on his face…
Because O’Rear noticed a red mark on her son’s face that she hadn’t seen before, she asked the daycare workers about it. They pleaded ignorance and claimed that he had the red hand-shaped mark on his face before he came to daycare. In that instant, Mom knew they were lying…
Even two days after picking him up from daycare, the red injuries on his face were still visible – the daycare workers struck him hard enough to mark him.
Because her son’s daycare refuses to admit the truth, O’Rear is left wondering. Now her worst fear has come true…
“If this was abuse, it’s kind of scary for me as a parent, because I just, I got to go to work.”
But now Armadillos To Zebras daycare in Richardson, Texas is under investigation because of the purple and red marks on precious 1-year-old Dakota’s face.
“I understand, kids get hurt at daycare,[His face] was just red and puffy, so I didn’t know anything had happened.”
After a long struggle, the daycare gave O’Rear an incident report that claimed Dakota “fell hitting his face on a toy.”
“I want them to be able to show me this is the toy that he fell on, or the kid hit him with this toy,” O’Rear said. “I hope that is the story, but right now, to me, it looks like it is the hand print.”
When news organizations reached out to the daycare, they refused to comment. But the owners mentioned that the caretaker involved in the incident has already been fired.
Texas does not take kindly to child abuse. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is conducting the investigation, which can take 30 days.
“I don’t want people to be punished that don’t need to be punished and if nobody really did hit him… Well, I just want the truth to come out,” said O’Rear.
O’Rear withdrew her son from daycare and will never send him to Armadillos To Zebras ever again – and rightfully so.
