Celebrating a special event without a loved one there can result in some mixed emotions, but this couple found a special way to include the bride’s late grandfather.
Brittany Yost was set to marry Jordon in Crab Orchard, West Virginia on July 22. According to a report from ABC News, Brittany had always wanted her grandfather, Rev. Ronald Adkins, to officiate her wedding. Sadly, he died the previous year, but the groom and Brittany’s sister found the perfect way to make the bride’s wish a reality.
Brittany’s sister’s wedding was officiated by their grandfather in 2015, so she took the recording from her wedding and played it at Brittany and Jordan’s ceremony as it was coming to a close and the preacher asked guests to bow their heads for prayer.
Brittany got the surprise of a lifetime when her grandfather’s voice came over the speaker to provide the prayer and announce them husband and wife. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place!
Brittany told ABC News: ‘When I first heard a voice over the speaker, I knew immediately who it was. My heart shattered, but I felt so much joy and happiness through all the tears.” She added, “The emotion and chills that filled my body are indescribable. I was weak to my knees, but I felt his presence. A calming came over me and I felt a weight lift off because my dream came true, all thanks to my sister and Jordon.”
Jordon added, “I had the privilege to get to know her grandfather a little bit before he passed, so it was a very heartfelt moment for me as well. When she broke down, I tried everything that I could to support her and embrace her by grasping onto her arms. The emotion was very intense. We both cried like babies, as well as everyone in attendance.”
The very special surprise provided a wedding moment that the bride will never forget, as she noted that “having him pray over our wedding was the most memorable moment and one I will cherish forever. All the dreams I had as a little girl came true.”
Brittany told Inside Edition: “It was the best feeling ever because I know that he actually wasn’t able to be there.”
In the video, her grandfather is heard saying, “I pronounce you husband and wife, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. You may kiss the bride.” The photos captured Brittany, the wedding party, and the guests’ responses.
She added, “That’s something that I always wanted, I was filled with joy and happiness, but it also broke my heart too because in reality he’s actually not here.”
Commenters on the Inside Edition video were moved by the very special surprise, with notes such as: “What a wonderful and touching and idea,” “this is very heartbreaking,” “What a beautiful idea, how extremely thoughtful,” and “Truly a family is a blessing from God. Amen.”
Another commenter shared: “Beautiful. I am crying so hard right now…My grandfather…the best man in my life was able to walk me down the aisle at my wedding giving me away to my husband. Not even a year later my papa passed away from cancer that spread everywhere. I was so very blessed to have him right next to me and your papa was right next to you also. God bless always.”
