Let’s be honest, there are some pretty bizarre Guinness Book of World Records categories. People will do almost anything to get their name in the big book of records.
After 40 years of eating McDonald’s Big Macs on a daily basis, one man by the name of Donald Gorske broke the record of most Big Macs eaten when he accumulated 26,000 total over the 40-year span.
Sometimes the categories spin completely out of control. One man set the record for the most apples held in his mouth and cut with a chainsaw in one minute. Yep…you read that correctly. Where do people come up with these things? London-based performance artist, Johnny Strange had eight apples cut in his mouth with a chainsaw in one minute.
Then there are other record holders who are just born with rare conditions that win them the top spot in their category. British man Garry Turner is able to stretch his stomach skin 6.25 inches due to a rare medical condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. “It’s a connective-tissue disorder where the collagen becomes defective and includes the loosening of the skin and hypermobile joints.
When it comes to showing off a pretty high pain endurance, Elaine Davidson had no problem coming in first for the most piercings on her body, totaling 4,225 piercings as of June 8, 2006. She was hooked after her first one and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon, as she is constantly adding and replacing the jewels.
It’s hard not to question where some people come up with the records that they choose to break. For example, one man holds the record for the most amount of time holding a table by his teeth. Luxembourg resident, Georges Christen holds the record for this bizarre category as he managed to run 38 feet and 8 inches while carrying a 26-pound table between his teeth. Oh, and it gets better…he had a 110-pound woman sitting on top of it.
One of the latest oddball records involves a man and some straws. The India man, Manoj Kumar Maharana, managed to fit 459 drinking straws into his mouth at the same time. The 23-year-old from Odisha was recently confirmed as holding the record was able to hold the straws in his mouth for ten seconds. It’s important that we add that he was allowed to hold the straws together with elastic bands. He used his hands to place the straws in his mouth, but he was not allowed to keep his hand on them once the timer started.
The other legendary straw holder is a British man named Simon Elmore, who held 400 straws in his mouth while at an event in Germany. Maybe Elmore will come back and try to shove 460 straws in his mouth?
The strange record has baffled commenters and they are questioning how and why he even thought of attempting the task…
“I wonder how he came to the conclusion of being able to stuff all those straws in his mouth.”
And others made jokes about it…
“Hey, there which drink would you like?”
