Their Rescue Dog Started Acting Very Odd, Leads Her Owners To Abandoned Field [video]

Unfortunately, rescue dogs sometimes get a bad reputation, especially if they were abused in the past. Sometimes, abused dogs can be aggressive because of the owners who treated them poorly in the past, and they don’t know any other way than to be defensive toward people and other animals. But, there are several rescue dogs who have proven to be amazing family pets.

One particular pup arrived at the Delta Animal Shelter in Escanaba, Michigan with a traumatic past. Formerly known as Petunia, the small mixed-breed pup had a belly full of carpet, two broken legs, and broken ribs as a result of an abusive owner.

Petunia was adopted by a loving family and her name was soon changed to Peanut. It didn’t take long for her new owners to get attached to the naturally sweet dog, and she transformed from abused rescue dog to local hero in just a matter of minutes.

One day while one of her owners was working in the garage, Peanut began to behave oddly. She was running up and down the stairs compulsively, barking and yelping. Shen then went out to the garage and alerted her dad that she wanted to go outside. It’s a good thing that he let her outside because Peanut was onto something. As soon as the door was open, she went barrelling outside toward the field behind the house. It was clear that Peanut was on a mission and nothing could stop her. Curious about her sudden desire to go out to the field, her dad followed her and was quite shocked at what she led him to.

Question of the week: If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?

It was a naked three-year-old girl balled up in the field. She was shivering and had only a sweatshirt wrapped around her tiny body. Evidently, Peanut had been clued in on the little girl’s presence and she didn’t give up until she got her the help she needed.

The homeowner immediately called the police and by the time the ambulance and officers arrived on scene the only word that the girl could say was, “Doggie.”

“The child is fine and is well and is in good hands as we speak,” said Deputy Steve Kositzky, who was one of the responding officers. “There was one other child that was located in the home and that child was removed as well and to my knowledge, both those children are together in a foster care type home.”

Peanut’s owners shared her story on social media and the pup is being rightfully recognized as a local hero. They also are on a mission to use Peanut’s story to prove just how much shelter dogs matter. The following post was shared along with Peanuts amazing rescue story…

“She has been such a blessing to us, and now to others,” it says. “Words cannot express how grateful we are that we have Peanut in our lives and how amazing she is. She is part of our family now and thanks to wonderful people like you at the shelter, she is alive. Without the animal shelter, not only would she have been gone from this world, but the life of this little girl may have been taken as well.”
