Here’s proof that good things still happen in this world. Kasey Simmons, a server at Applebee’s in Texas, offered an incredibly kind gesture to someone in need.
The story doesn’t end there, however.
Simmons is happy to make others’ lives a little brighter, as he explained, “It’s selfish really. When people smile, I feel better. It lightens my world.”
When he was shopping at the grocery store, he noticed that a woman was unhappy and offered to pay for her things.
Simmons explains, “I insisted,” adding, “It was only $17, but it’s not about the money – it’s about showing someone you care.”
What an amazingly kind thing to do.
Fast forward to the next day, when he was working at Applebee’s and waited on a family. They only ordered a flavored water before asking for the check. What happened next is almost beyond comprehension.
The total for the water was under $.50, but the tip was amazing.
Simmons noted, “They ordered the cheapest thing on the menu of flavored water – it was $0.37. But my tip was about 50,000 percent.”
That’s right, the woman left a $500 tip! She explained the $500 in a note left on a napkin, telling Simmons that the woman he helped in the grocery store was her mother, who was managing the sorrow of the third anniversary of her husband’s death.
The woman wrote: “Casey, I want to thank you for being the person you are. On one of the most depressing days of the year, the death of my father’s three-year anniversary, you made my mother’s day wonderful.” She added, “She has been smiling since you did what you did.”
Simmons’ kindness obviously had a huge impact, as the woman wrote: “You are one of a kind. Have fun with this …You made her year.”
In this news coverage video, Simmons explains that he didn’t remember what time it happened, but explained, “I just remember the reaction from the cashier.” He continued, “The cashier was like, ‘I hear about this all the time on the news.’”
He also explained how his meeting with the upset woman at a Kroger store happened, noting: “She looked like she was having a bad day.” He walked up to her and offered help, explaining, “Anything I can do to make somebody smile.” He paid for the woman’s groceries and told her she was beautiful.
Commenters were thrilled with Simmons’ kind gesture, leaving responses such as: “I am overjoyed that there are more and more stories like this being reported!,” “Thank you, Kasey. You give hope to humanity. God bless you,” “I love stories like this. It let’s me know that there are warm hearted kind people in this world. Thank you Casey,” and “Mr Kasey you are the man of the year. you’re one of the good ones. I vote for Mr Kasey for Mayor.”
Another commented: “What a wonderful man! This world needs more people like this man. Casey is the best! His mama raised a wonderful son.”
Still another felt inspired, writing: “God this makes me want to be a better person.”
