Trump Refuses To Eat At A Fancy Dinner, Dines With Our Troops Instead

Updated November 13, 2017

President Trump is accused of a lot of things. Some say he is a fake and others accuse him of sexual misconduct.

But there are a lot of things that he is doing well, and one of those things is his undying support of the military.

His dedication to service members was felt on Tuesday when he chose to have lunch with U.S. and South Korean troops instead of attending a fancy lunch at the DMZ. The president not only showed up at the lunch, but he sat down with the servicemembers and conversed with them.

Trump was accompanied by South Korean President Moon Jae-in, as he joined 108 servicemen and women for Taco Tuesday at Camp Humphreys during his visit to South Korea.

“I had a choice of having a beautiful, very fancy lunch and I said no, I want to eat with the troops and we ate with the troops,” said Trump, who addressed the servicemembers as they dined. “It’s an honor to be with you and we’re gonna be with you all the way.”

He also went on to promise them a positive forecast for when they return home…

“When you get home you’re gonna have a nice strong economy. Hopefully, you’ll be looking at so many jobs that you’re going to have so many choices you won’t know what to do,” he said. “It was my honor to be with you…this is my choice, this is where I wanted to be.”

He made the troops feel comfortable, but some still felt a bit starstruck. When Sgt. Jerrell Knight of Atlanta found out that he would be seated right next to the president, he admitted that he was a bit nervous.

Pvt. Merion Holmes, 21, of Georgetown, South Carolina, said he was honored to see Trump and felt supported by the president.

“I get to meet my commander in chief, my boss. It’s pretty overwhelming to be right next to the president,” said Knight, who also shared that Trump spoke about the U.S.-South Korean alliance and the need for a solution to the North Korean problem. He said Trump thanked him for his service and shook his hand.

In a video that was shared on social media, Trump is heard saying how honored he is to be having lunch with the troops.

Since there wasn’t enough time for Trump to visit both the DMZ and the troops at Camp Humphreys, he had to decide between the two and he gladly chose the troops.

“It’s becoming a little bit of a cliché, frankly. And that’s why he’s going to be down at Humphreys,” an official said.

Trump’s decision to skip out on a “fancy lunch” and eat with troops in a dining hall says a lot about his character and shows the respect he has for the military.

Some questioned whether or not Obama would’ve chosen the troops over the DMZ.

Trump shared his experience on Twitter…

“It was my great honor to have lunch with our INCREDIBLE U.S. and ROK troops at Camp Humphreys, in South Korea.”
