Earlier this year, Noor Salman, the wife of the Pulse Orlando shooter, pleaded not guilty to charges related to the attack. Although her husband brought assault rifles into Orlando’s Pulse nightclub and opened fire on innocent people killing 49, she claims not to be associated with the shooter homophobic and ISIS-inspired massacre. Salman pleaded not guilty in the US District Court, denying that she helped her husband Omar Mateen with material support to ISIS as well as obstructing justice when police were investigating the massacre. And now she wants Florida taxpayers to pay for her legal defense team.
Noor made her not guilty plea back in April. Her attorney in January claimed that Noor had not knowledge about her husband’s plan to commit mass murder in the nightclub.
“Noor Salman had no foreknowledge nor could she predict what Omar Mateen intended to do that tragic night,” said family attorney Linda Moreno of Tampa, Florida, in a statement. “Noor has told her story of abuse at his hands. We believe it is misguided and wrong to prosecute her and that it dishonors the memories of the victims to punish an innocent person.”
Now that things are getting down to the wire and Noor realizes that the public is not going to look favorably on her husband’s ISIS-inspired actions, she has claimed she is “indigent.” That means she needs taxpayer money to pay for her legal defense, at least in part. Florida taxpayers will be forking over their money to help the mass murderer’s wife hire experts to review the government’s extensive evidence against her.
Noor has been accused of helping Mateen scout for locations to commit mass murder. During one of their location scouting outings, Matten allegedly asked Noor, “What would make people more upset, an attack on a nightclub or on Downtown Disney?”
After Mateen went through with his nightmarish scheme, she lied to the police about what she knew. In the aftermath as police scrambled to figure out more about the man who killed 49 nightclub goers, she obstructed justice with her untruths.
Now her defense team is scrambling. And they’re asking the Florida courts for more time.
Noor changed her story to the FBI. At first she pretended she never knew that her husband was planning a murderous rampage. But when the evidence made it clear that she did know something about it – she changed her story to saying that she watched her husband leave their home on the night of the attack with firearms and a lot of ammunition.
During the attack, Mateen pledge his allegiance to ISIS while speaking to 911 operators as he murdered innocent people. Although he claimed ISIS allegiance, some people still believe that Mateen was a closed homosexual who lashed out in a violent rage at the open gay men at the club. They were living the life he envied but that he thought he could not have for himself.
Do you think Florida taxpayers should give Mateen’s wife money for her legal defense?
