In the realm of music there is no more pure expression than the unaccompanied vocal. Known as “A Capella,” it is a simple matter of voices singing melodies without any instrumental accompaniment. One group of women have been wowing audiences the world over since 2011. Girl’s Quartet perform some of the most beloved songs using just their angelic voices, and we just found a video of them singing the classic Christian hymn “How Great Thou Art.” You are going to fall in love with their singing when you watch this clip.
“How Great Thou Art” was composed by the Swedish composer Carl Gustav Boberg in 1885. It was first translated into German and then into Russian, and then became one of the timeless standards of the Protestant Christian hymnal.
It is based on a traditional Russian folk melody, and was first translated into English by Stuart H. Hine. Cliff Barrows and George Beverly Shea made it popular in the US during the famous Billy Graham Crusades in the 1950’s.
It has even been recorded by many popular artists like Burl Ives, Tammy Wynette, Charlie Daniels, Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood, and perhaps most famously, Elvis Presley.
We are sure that this new performance by Girl’s Quartet is destined to become a classic as well.
Girl’s Quartet was formed in 2011, and received almost instant praise for their recording of “I’m Into Something Good.” Within their first year the group had won first place at the Sweet Adelines International Rising Star Competition. Since then, they have become one of the world’s most popular female singing groups.
