Every day of the week, two people are always in the headlines when it comes to American politics. You have President Trump on the right and freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the left. Although she is still in her twenties, she is stirring the pot when it comes to the government’s establishment, challenging politicians to do something – and recently, she came forward accusing former Navy Seal and congressman Dan Crenshaw on Twitter.
The feud between the two congresspeople started after Rep. Crenshaw reacted to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s comment about how “some people did something” in regards to the September 11th terrorist attacks back in 2001. Crenshaw, who has a soft spot for veterans, blasted Omar in response to the comment because he felt that she referred to the American tragedy much too lightly and flippantly.
However, Crenshaw then put a tweet out into the world that sparked the feud to get bigger. He wrote, “First member of Congress to ever describe terrorists who killed thousands of Americans on 9/11 as ‘some people who did something.’ Unbelievable.”
When this comment made its way into the Twitter feed of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, she could not sit idly back and let him verbally attack her fellow Democratic colleague in the House of Representatives. She jumped at the opportunity to defend Omar and did so by lashing back at Rep. Crenshaw about how he should “do go something.”
“You refuse to cosponsor the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund, yet have the audacity to drum resentment towards Ilhan w/completely out-of-context quotes,” she told the Republican. “In 2018, right-wing extremists were behind almost ALL US domestic terrorist killings. Why don’t you go do something about that?”
Ocasio-Cortez was referring to how an increasing number of right-wing extremists are causing acts of terrorism within the border of the United States. Recent mass shootings across the American South have been conducted by white men who are angry. They are able to obtain weapons and then use them to slaughter innocent people.
Although Ocasio-Cortez was speaking to Crenshaw as a Republican and asking him to help reign back the alt-right and right-wing extremists who are using their weapons to murder innocent people indiscriminately, Kentucky Republican Rep. Andy Barr was not happy about it. As you can tell, this feud continues to get bigger and bigger as more people express their outrage about what is happening in American politics.
Rep. Barr wanted Ocasio-Cortez to apologize to Crenshaw before visiting Kentucky. Because she directed her criticism at a former Navy SEAL, Barr felt that her criticism was unwarranted since he did “do something” when he volunteered to go to battle in the name of the United States of America.
Throughout the ordeal, Crenshaw has remained silent, allowing Barr to stand in the ring for him. But Barr is not the only won to do so. Ryan Saavedra also wrote:
“AOC is attacking Dan Crenshaw for not fighting for 9/11 victims. Crenshaw is a decorated war hero, who, as a Navy SEAL, lost his eye fighting terrorists in Afghanistan and earned 2 Bronze Stars (one with Valor), the Purple Heart, and the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor.”
