A young boy got the most amazing Christmas present that he could have ever wanted and the video capturing his overjoyed reaction won over everyone who watched it. 10-year-old Owynn’s mom Stacey shared their story with the site Love What Matters, explaining that she and her husband Adam always wanted at least two children, but they suffered multiple miscarriages and unsuccessful in vitro over the course of seven years.
Owynn had wanted a sibling so badly, he added it to his Christmas list. It was a tall order and Stacey admitted it prompted “deep conversations about how sometimes God doesn’t always answer our prayers exactly how we intend him to.”
They explored foster care but found it wasn’t a good fit for their family. She explained that her son was “heartbroken.”
Fate played its part, however, as Stacey noted: “by the grace of God we were introduced to an amazing young woman, Kendra, who wanted to place her baby for adoption. We knew it was a one in a million chance she would pick us, but our prayers were answered.”
She added: “We kept the whole situation from our 10-year-old son knowing that the chances were high the birth mom may change her mind. We already knew his feelings on becoming a sibling, and we knew we couldn’t get his hopes up again just to crush his heart.”
When Naylee was born, the couple were at the hospital and her mother gave them permission to take her home. She continued: “On December 8 we got to bring our little girl home to her forever big brother! I was excited when Kendra asked if she could be there when we surprised Owynn, and I knew that was important for her, and for us, to have her there.”
Since Owynn “had no clue,” Stacey explained, the surprise was huge, as she called it “the best Christmas gift ever.”
They placed the sweet baby under the Christmas tree and Owynn was brought in to see what was under the tree. He’s seen excitedly coming to the front door to find out what his early Christmas present is, smiling wide as he’s told, “We have something for you” that’s “under the tree.”
Inside the house, he discovers his adorable sister wearing the shirt “Little Sister” and is told “that’s your little sister.”
Stacey added: “We are absolutely in love. At times we still just look at her and can’t believe how blessed we are. We knew God played a role in all of this. He gave us trials to test our faith. In his time, he gave us what we had always prayed for, our sweet Naylee Kenmyn Rayn.”
As for Owynn, she said, he calls December 6 “the best day of his life,” sharing that he believes that “God gave him two sisters, Kendra and Naylee” that day. She continued: “Without a doubt, her family has become ours. Our plan is to have Naylee always know who her birth mom is and how special she will always be to us.”
