Critics Are Outraged That Ellen Is Friends With George W. Bush

While critics are not happy that talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has taken a meeting with former president George W. Bush, she defends that action by claiming the 43rd president is her friend. The pair were spotted together at Sunday’s Dallas Cowboy game, and the image has sparked outrage among Ellen’s fanbase who lean left when it comes to American politics – but Ellen is hoping that her friendship with George W. Bush can help establish a stronger connection between the warring political factions as Trump’s administration faces impeachment.

While Ellen knew that it was a bit controversial that she has kept up a friendship with the former president, she is shocked that it has resulted in so much heat. That’s why she decided to address the fury from her fans directly, by recording a video and sharing it on her popular talk show.

Ellen also shared the clip from her show, explaining her relationship with George W. Bush. She said:

“Yes, that was me at the Cowboys game with George W. Bush over the weekend. Here’s the whole story.”

Ellen then clarified exactly how she and George W. Bush had maintained a friendship over the years.

“Here’s the thing. I’m friends with George Bush. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different, and I think that we’ve forgotten that that’s okay that we’re all different.”

While American leaders continue to drive a wedge between liberals and conservatives, Ellen wants to encourage people to reach out and make a friend who does not have identical beliefs to you. By stretching your circle of influence, you become a wiser and better person – a bigger person.

“Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them,” Ellen said.

Ellen added that she and her wife Portia de Rossi were invited to the game by the daughter of the franchise owner Jerry Jones.

“When we were invited, I was aware that I was going to be surrounded with people from very different views and beliefs. And I’m not talking about politics. I was rooting for the Packers,” she said, making the audience laugh. “So I had to hide my cheese hat in Portia’s purse.”

Ellen and Portia went to the private suite owned by the team owner and were delighted to see Bush there. The couple was overjoyed to see that George W. Bush and his wife Laura were at the game as well, and they knew that it was going to be a good time watching football.

Fox broadcasted the game and made a point to show Ellen and George mingling during the game. The image of the unlikely pair of friends went viral and forced Ellen to come forward to “explain” what happened.

“People were upset,” Ellen said. “They thought, why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president? A lot of people were mad. And they did what people do when they’re mad… they tweet.”
