One of President Trump’s biggest pushes as president has been in his fight against the opioid crisis. Because thousands of Americans are dying every year from this addiction, which is often the result of doctor-prescribed pain pills, people are demanding that Trump do something to stop innocent people from dying. However, alcohol abuse seems to be closer to the Trump family, as Trump’s brother died at a young age from over drinking, and now Trump’s heir has come forward to admit that he has a problem with abusing alcohol.

Trump’s brother, Fred Trump Jr., died in 1981 after years of abusing alcohol. He was just forty-two years old when he passed away from the addiction that runs in the Trump blood. Now Donald Trump Jr., who is 41-years-old, has come forward with an alarming admission about his lack of self-control around booze and drinking.

Trump Jr. has decided to admit his alcohol problem in his new book, Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us. In that book, he admits he has a problem with drinking and decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and quit alcohol because, like his uncle Freddie, Donald Jr. “didn’t know how to drink in moderation.”

The problem has been persistent throughout the Trump clan for decades and generations. Trump doesn’t drink himself. Now his son doesn’t drink because he can’t control the impulse. Fred Trump Jr. died from drinking too much.

Donald Jr. admitted in the book that he binge drank throughout college. Because he partied his “a** off” during his youth, Donald Jr. decided to quit hitting the bottle and stop indulging his compulsive personality that overpowered his ability to stop punching back beers and whiskey shots.

“Once I got going, it wasn’t easy to stop me – which, when you’re in college, isn’t a huge problem, as long as you’re getting your work done,” he wrote. “With my personality, drinking alcohol was a recipe for disaster.”

Because Donald Jr. is forty-one and his uncle Fred died of alcoholism when he was forty-two, Donald Jr. knew that he had to quit drinking or meet an early grave. Making a choice to quit drinking was a good decision for Trump’s eldest son. He has lost a lot of weight and sees the world more clearly now.

Donald Jr. first started reflecting on his burgeoning problem with alcohol in 2000.

“Once I got going, it wasn’t easy to stop me – which, when you’re in college, isn’t a huge problem, as long as you’re getting your work done,” he admitted. “But once I started thinking about a career and a life beyond school, it was. To be honest, I didn’t know how to drink in moderation. I have an all-or-nothing personality; just ask anyone who knows me. Being compulsive works for some things – give me a job to do, and I’m going to get it done – but it’s not so good for vices.”

Because Junior knew that alcohol would end him, he had to give it up.

“One thing about us Trumps is that we have plenty of willpower. I would come to find that it was easier for me to ignore alcohol than it was to try to control it. Eventually, I would give up drinking for good.”
