The disaster at Chernobyl happened over 33 years ago. That’s when an accident happened during a safety test to see what would happen during a power outage. Unfortunately, the staff working at the time was not equipped to handle the test, the procedures were not followed carefully, and somewhere between 4,000 and 200,000 people died. The actual number of casualties is still being debated to this day.
Today, Chernobyl is still one of the most radioactive places in the world. People are not supposed to visit the site, but that doesn’t stop some people who are curious about the disaster. Making matters worse, a recent HBO special documenting the events has led to increased interest in the site.
One Instagram model decided to go to the site and take some racy photos, and now she’s feeling the backlash.
Critics of the photos are bashing her for being disrespectful of the thousands of people who died there. They aren’t too happy that she is trying to increase her follower count at the site of such a horrible disaster.
Some of the comments on her instagram post were quite harsh:
“Beyond disrespectful. If you agree, report it.”
“RESPECT, BITCH, hundreds or thousand died there or because of what happened there. JUST RESPECT.”
“You should [be] throat punched for this.”
One of the comments used just four words to sum it all up:
“What a stupid girl”
What do you think about this girl’s decision to get attention at such a horrific place? Tell us in the comments below!
