Choosing to take in a pet is a serious responsibility that many people just don’t think enough about beforehand. Being in charge of another living thing isn’t something to take lightly, yet some people buy and get rid of pets more often than they change out their toothbrush. One couple that recently moved couldn’t even get up the courage to give their poor dog away to a shelter.
They sold their home and quickly moved into the next, but the new owner discovered something tragic in the basement. Their dog was left chained up, all alone and with no food. They had left the poor pup to die, or for the new owner to save in the luckiest case. Thankfully, the new owner arrived just in time.
“I just bought a new house and there is a pit bull chained up in the basement,” the homeowner wrote to the Stray Rescue in St. Louis. “I’m not sure how long it’s been down there.”
Rescuer’s quickly arrived and were let in by the new homeowner’s friend. They discovered a very sad sight, as the dog was left in absolutely disgusting conditions.
“When we opened the door to the basement and shined our flashlight down, we saw a wagging tail,” Stray Rescue Communication’s Director Natalie Thomson said in an interview with The Dodo. “When we freed her, she couldn’t stop jumping up and down and giving hugs.”
The poor dog couldn’t be happier to finally be rescued from his terrible fate. The pit bull has now been giving the name Jumping Bean for her endless spirit and joy, even in the face of death.
“We named this girl Jumping bean! We felt as though she was saying, ‘I am not to be ignored. I am a LIVING, BREATHING being and I deserve better,” the video description read.
Stray Rescue was able to save this poor pups life and thankfully made a beautiful video out of the almost-tragic situation. Jumping Bean remained so strong and inspirational even when left by her horrible previous owner to die.
Not only was the dog left there alone, she was chained up with no food or water in sight. Only a sick, twisted human being could subject another living being to such cruelty and pain – the previous homeowner should face legal punishment for this crime.
The Animal Welfare Act of 1966 is the Federal law that establishes the minumum conditions an animal must be kept in. The law clearly prohibits the exact sort of conditions that Jumping Bean was facing, but according to this video no charges are being pressed in the case.
Unless we are willing to prosecute those who torture animals, it is going to be impossible to prevent further animal abuse just like this. Only with strong laws and enforcement can we save these animals from the tragic fate that Jumping Bean barely managed to avoid.
