Rezzas Abdulla has a history of hate. He has been previously convicted of attacking white women because of their race. In one incident, Abdulla approached a young mother who was pushing her baby in a cart. The man then verbally assaulted the mother before spitting at the baby girl. Although he has a history of similar attacks, Abdulla managed to avoid a jail sentence and was allowed to leave as a free man.
The seemingly racially motivated attack occurred in the United Kingdom in South Shields last January. When Abdulla saw the nine-month-old baby, he left her slathered with his saliva and a round of insults.
Afterward the baby’s mother, 25-year-old Rebecca Telford appeared before the judge in Newcastle Crown Court to describe how 33-year-old Abdulla targeted her and her baby and attacked without warning.
In defense of the mother, Prosecutor Emma Dowling said: “He lent into the pushchair and spat into the face of her daughter. As he did so, he shouted or said ‘white people shouldn’t breed’”
The court then learned that the mother of the attacked baby faced off with Abdulla to defend her child. But he just demanded that she “shut the f*** up” before he stormed away from the scene of the unprovoked attack.
The spit was so violent and messy, a passerby stopped and gave the infant’s mother help cleaning up. Dowling claimed spit was “sprayed around” the baby’s whole face. Telford hurried to remove her phone and photograph the baby’s attacker. But she could not do it. Abdullah’s attack had shaken her and shocked her so much that the young mother was unable to withdraw the phone from her purse in time to capture his image.
Fortunately, police were able to use CCTV to track down Abdullah because he has two similar convicted incidents against white women.
In a trial he did not attend, the South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court found him guilty of a racially aggravated assault.
When the mother of the baby he spits on came to the police she told them:
“I am completely disgusted and distressed that a grown man, regardless of race or religion, would spit on a defenseless baby in a completely unprovoked attack. If he had just walked by I would not have even noticed him. There was no eye contact, and no words had been exchanged. I had never seen him before.”
Despite her testimony and the fact that he was caught on CCTV, Abdullah was acquitted of all charges.
After the attack, Telford took her baby to the hospital for tests. She is now almost two-years-old.
“I believe he spat on her purely because we are white. I was a lone female and an easy target,” the mother said.
During the proceedings, Recorder Darren Preston told Abdulla:
“There is something viscerally horrible and disgusting about spitting at someone, particularly in the face and to do so to a baby was particularly disgusting, let alone to make things even worse when your motivation for doing so is racial hatred.”
Abdulla was given psychiatric treatment and now receives anti-psychotic treatment in the community.
