In her forthcoming memoir, Jessica Simpson talks about the day she hits rock bottom. Throughout the book, Simpson describes how she was sexually abused as a child, which led to her addiction to prescription pills and alcohol. In excerpts from the book, it becomes clear that Jessica Simpson’s life was never as idyllic as it seemed from the outside or during her television appearances – as was evidenced by how bad her addiction became.

When describing her worst day, Simpson said that she started drinking at 7:30 am in the morning and realized that things had gotten out of hand. Because the 39-year-old mother of three was “terrified of letting” her children know the truth about her demons, she hid them the best she could. She didn’t want them to see their mother as a drunk addict and was far too “ashamed to say” that she was so drunk during that Halloween that she had no idea who got them into their costumes.

The morning began early. Jessica accompanied her husband Eric Johnson, to a school assembly for their daughter Maxwell. Simpson, who was a superstar singer, and currently runs a billion-dollar clothing/lifestyle brand, remembered that “it was 7:30 in the morning, and I’d already had a drink.” She married Eric in 2014 after dating him for four years. They share three children, daughters Maxwell, seven and Birdie, ten-months, as well as their six-year-old son, Ace.

Following the assembly, Simpson started to prep for the Halloween party they were throwing for the children. Simpson’s costume was of her friend country singer Willie Nelson.

She “zoned out” while her team glued on her fake beard and did her makeup. When Eric came to check on her to see if she was ready to help the children get into their costumes, he realized that his wife was out of her mind drunk.

“I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape,” she wrote.

When the Halloween was finished – and touted as a success although she did not feel that way about it – Simpson took an Ambien so she could pass out and sleep.

“I slept in, afraid to see them, afraid I had failed them. I hid until they left, then drank.”

When Simpson spoke to close friends about her drug and drinking problems, she told them: “I need to stop. Something’s got to stop. And if it’s alcohol that’s doing this and making things worse, then I quit.”

Not only did Jessica Simpson come clean about her addictions, but she also revealed that she was sexually abused as a young girl. She believed this led to emotional trauma, which she self-medicated with drugs and alcohol.

A family friend sexually abused Simpson when she was six-years-old. She kept it secret from her parents until she was twelve.

“(It happened) when I shared a bed with the daughter of a family friend, It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable.”

She added, “I wanted to tell my parents. I was the victim, but somehow I felt in the wrong.”
