It goes without saying that the Chinese-created TikTok app has changed the way Americans eat. Now, Americans are flocking to the social media platform to witness what other people are putting onto their plates from across the world. While TikTok had welcomed thousands of trends to the dinner table since the video-sharing app soared to global popularity thanks in part to the global pandemic when people were stuck at home with nothing to do but make TikTok videos, this new food trend might be one to stay.

Oreo Sushi is the latest trend to take over TikTok. The recipe is quite simple for this tasty treat as it only requires two ingredients that can be purchased at any American grocery store. The two items are Oreo cookies and milk – any type of milk will do for making Oreo sushi.

According to Taste of Home, there are only three steps required to make this delicious and trendy item for consumption at home. Just gather the two ingredients, and you can get started making this delightful treat that has since become internationally famous for its cute look and deliciously sweet taste.

First, you need to separate your Oreo cookies into its two main components – cookie and cream. Gently twist your Oreos apart, so you remove one side of the cookie treat. Then use a fork to scrape the remaining cream from the second cookie. Place the cookies into a plastic bag and put all of the cream filling in a bowl.

Tightly seal the plastic bag, squeezing out as much air as possible. Use a rolling pin to smash the cookies into bits and crumbs. Once you’ve created a powder of tiny cookie crumbs, transfer the smashed bits into a bowl and add milk one tablespoon at a time. Combine slowly until a thick cookie paste forms. You want to create the dough, so don’t add too much milk.

Now, it’s time to start creating your rolls of Oreo sushi. Set down a piece of plastic wrap on your countertop. Then, spread the cookie paste over the plastic wrap in a long single layer. Finally, top it off with an even layer of the Oreo cookie cream filling. Try to make it as even as possible.

Use the bottom of the plastic wrap to twist the deconstructed cookie parts into a tight roll. Try to roll it like you would a burrito. Once you have created a log from the Oreo cookie, it’s time to cut it into pieces. Use a knife to slice your cookie roll into disks and then serve it up as you would sushi – but without the pickled ginger and spicy wasabi.

Oreo sushi goes great by itself. It can also be served with a cup of milk for those who really like to dunk Oreo cookies in milk. However, milk has already been incorporated as an ingredient, so you might not need it.

What do you think about Oreo sushi? Would you follow the TikTok recipe to create this dessert at home?
